...Dark Side Of The Moon. i'm sitting here listening to the whole album, and it still blows me away. the composition, the lyrics, everything about this album is amazing. my pick for greatest rock album of all time.
You didn't reckon that I actually had work to do this afternoon! Well, yea it is one of the greatest albums ever and the listening experience is heightened by listening with headphones, especially to remastered versions as you can hear better all the various people that Roger Waters got to say random things throughout the songs - "I never said I was afraid of dying." But "Animals" is still my favorite Floyd album by them and I doubt that will ever change. DSOTM is probably #2 although "The Wall" sometimes bumps it to #3. But I will say that DSOTM should be the first Floyd purchase for anybody new to the band.
Tough call. Sometimes SOTM tops my list, sometimes it's The Wall, Sometimes it's Wish You Were Here, sometimes it's The Final Cut, sometimes it's Animals, and sometimes it's The Final Cut. Depends on the mood I'm in. And I think I'm the only Pink Floyd fan who's never done (or even tried) an illegal drug (aside from drinking booze underage).
has anyone here in Houston seen the Pink Floyd/Dark Side of the Moon laser light show at the Museum of Natural Science? saw it last year .......WOW ......totally awesome DSOTM is my favorite album of all time isnt it still the best selling album ever?
FPF The Wall is the pink floyd album that's way up on the charts though it's like #4 or 5 or something. eagles greatest hits is somehow #1 (though i'm suspicious of the 8 platinum jump it took in 92 right after adding an extra platinum just a year earlier-8 million people bought it in a one year span about 17 years after it came out?) and thriller is #2. i think the record company just shipped a bunch of eagles greatest hits (since number shipped is what they measure) to get it above Thriller. also, iirc The Wall is actually a double album which means every time it sells they count it as two albums so it's actually only sold half of whatever it's certified at now. then billy joel, ac/dc, shania twain, whitney houston, i think a beatles album, and some group i'm forgetting round out the rest of the all-time top selling albums list. edit: okay just checked. Eagles 28M, Thriller 27M, The Wall 23M, Led Zep IV 22M, Billy Joel Greatest Hits Vol 1 and 2 (i guess also a double album) 21M, Back in Black 20M, Come on Over 19M, Rumours 19M, The White Album 19M, Boston 17M, Bodyguard ST 17M. http://www.rockonthenet.com/xtra/toplps2.htm
DSOTM is #20 on that list. I did some research because that didn't sound right. Apparently, that list is US Sales. Came across this: http://classicrock.about.com/od/pinkfloydfaq/f/pfdarkside.htm Q. What are some of the achievements of the album "Dark Side of the Moon"? A. "Dark Side of the Moon" is the second-best-selling album of all time worldwide, and has sold over 35 million copies as of 2004. It reached #1 on The Billboard Top 200, and all together spent 740 weeks on the charts, including a 591 consecutive week run. It is estimated that one in every 14 people in the U.S. under the age of 50 owns a copy of this album.
A few more cool bits of info on DSOTM: #1 best selling album of all time, worldwide is Thriller. It is estimated that one in every 14 people in the USA under the age of 50 owns a copy of DSOTM.
Pink Floyd is pure genius. I find them simply amazing, no matter the album. I don't think I could pick a favorite album, but DSOTM is one of them along with Wish You Were Here.
