I created this thread so that I could talk about the only thing that is as interesting to me as sports and that is the world of gaming. Reading that Square-Enix would partner with Rockstar to make a game would be about as newsworthy to me as a trade that would involve the Rockets moving um....SF, Cat, and Cato for TMac, Lue, Howard, and Gaines. But I realize that if I made a thread mentioning the Virtual Fighter 2 arcade version coming to the PS2, not too many posters would really care about that one thread. However, by combining that news with other small types of news, hopefully it would make a one good thread rather than 5 threads that don't get much attention. Of course, big games, like Doom 3 releasing, NCAA 2005 or any other sports game, Halo 2, etc., would be able to receive much attention, this would try to focus on slightly lesser known games.

It was also be cool to talk about current games we're playing that are pretty good. EX: past three games I've played include NBA Ballers(ok), Psi-Ops( cool) and Spiderman 2 (really good). Other things that are interesting, IMO, that involve gaming:

    1. The DVD successor war: HD-DVD vs Blu-ray

    2. Any of the upcoming monster games that will be out later this year or early next year. (EX:GTA:SA, MGS 3, FF 12, Halo 2, Fable, KOTOR 2, HL2)

    3. The future of gaming, ranging from the next-gen consoles to perhaps some type of quantum computer that could be used for gaming in many years to come.

    4. The battle of the handhelds: Nintendo DS vs Sony PSP

    5. Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Technically, it is a movie and not a game, but it was a game. Plus, perhaps this will lead to a remake or a sequel to the original FF7 on a current console or next-gen console, which some rumors speculate at.

I'm sure there are more things as well, but those are some of the things that the gaming world offers that really grabs my attention. I'd like to see how others feel about video games and anything related to them. And I just leave it at that and see if anyone else would care to comment, and hopefully those comments would not involve anything that involves Quincy Carter being a druggie and the Cowboys sucking this year. ;)

When I was a teenager, my friend and I would refer to porno mags as "Gaming Magazines". Just thought I'd share that.

I'm hoping that Capcom does something special for the 15th anniversary of Street Fighter.

There have been talks and hints that maybe Street Fighter 4 will be unveiled, but I'm not holding my breath.

Psi Ops is surprisingly solid. Being able to dispose of folks in so many different ways - and the relatively smooth transition/control scheme in doing so - makes for a fun game.

I don't have Doom 3 yet. Damn work getting in the way. That will change in the next couple of days.

DS will be solid. Much more than a lot of people expected when it was first announced. So, too, will the PSP...provided they don't blow it with cost and battery life, or focusing too much on the 'media' aspect. They are in danger of marketing themselves right out of just about every consumer group they want.

But PSP seems so far away, while DS seems relatively close. I actually have a hard time comparing the two...like comparing current gen with next.

Fall is going to be absolutely nuts. Half Life 2, Halo 2, GTA: San Andreas, Metroid Prime 2, MGS 3, etc. etc. From October on, we will be bombarded with some great stuff.

A lotto win would be good right now. :(

    Great thread.

I just want to mention that I'm stoked for Halo 2 to come out before Christmas.

The only issue I have with it is that it might have been built up too much to live up to expectations. One of the reasons Halo was so great is that it was so surprisingly good.

I also think that Bungie might be trying to do TOO much with the new Halo. Halo 1 was simple to play. You could be competitive in minutes, but it took a long time to master. I hope the controls, missions, and other things don't get TOO complex to make the gameplay unenjoyable.

I'm also looking forward to LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth for the PC. This looks to be a pretty good real time strategy game. In the previews it looks like the game is somewhat realistic...in the fact that you build large armies that die easily...so it doesn't take an Ent beating up on an orc for several seconds...one big Ent punch takes out several orcs at once...if a guy gets sliced with a sword, he goes down...

Those are two games I'm looking forward to. Unreal 2004 has already grown tired to me. I love logging on and playing, but between the server issues they've had, as well as some people taking the game WAY to seriously, its lost its appeal in the short run for me. I might revisit it in a month or two, but for right now, I just have no interest in logging on.

I have a slight discussion topic: What do you guys think of most games becoming online playable and that path that the video gaming world is taking???

Are the days of an awesome, and time consuming single player game coming about (Zelda games, FF, Metroid, ect.) coming to an end? Will all games turn into multiple player online fests in the future?

I hope that it does not. I love playing online against other people, but I also like a deep, time consuming one player game.

One more question: Mario Kart, Mario Party, ect...are all good "get-togehter" games with friends. Are there any good games like that for PS2 or XBOX on the horizon (that doesn't involve a stupid little camera)?

Am anxiously awaiting Halo 2, Kotor 2, Fable, Rome: Total War

Still need to get Riddick, ESPN NFL (I'll probably pick that up soon)

Also, I'd like to pick up a few good games that I missed out on, like Otogi, Beyond Good & Evil, Freedom Fighters, Rainbow Six 3, among others.

Yeah, I decided to give it a try since I heard good things about it. I started out not really liking it that much because of the shortage of guns and ammo, but as soon as my Psi powers came, I loved it. I had so much fun just throwing people around with my mind or controlling their minds and making them fall 500 feet to their death. It was beautiful as well. It seemed a tad bit short though. Kind of wished for a little more there.

With the fun factor in this game, I may check out the other Psi game, I think Second Sight, when it comes out. Seems to offer similiar gameplay elements.

Yeah, DS should do quite well. If the PSP does do it right on the price issue and can make some tweaks on the battery life before it is released, it should at least be able to get a little piece of the handheld pie. I was originally worried about the price, but I now seem to think it shouldn't be an issue. While there is speculation of it costing an insane amount of money($400-500), I've also seen rumors of it being no more than $200, and maybe even as little as $150. That would be awesome considering exactly what is being bought at that price. (movie, music, and about PS2 player)

The DS does bring an interesting aspect of two screens, although I wonder if every developer will attempt to find a creative way to use it or just stick some menu their. Plus, they do have some good game support, although the PSP does as well. Too bad it seems as though right now, Square-Enix only has plans for games on the DS and not the PSP. Having a Square game on the PSP would help GREATLY, especially if it could be something that is near as graphically impressive as their games on the PS2.

Tell me about it. Back during school, I slacked off a bit and didn't keep up on game news, and that extended into the summer with the TMac craze. About a month ago, I looked at the release dates for games. It went something like this:

    "Hmm...Fable is coming out soon...so is GTA:SA...and Halo 2...and HL2...and Doom 3....and MGS3...and Silent Hill 4....and GT4...and"

If anyone were to make a summary of the upcoming games, it would be near impossible to get every single game that is noteworthy. I always seem to forget about the GC games like Metroid and RE4. I feel as though I may slip a bit in grades this fall. :)

Yeah, it is being hyped a lot. It seems that wherever I go, I have to hear somebody talking about Halo, which almost makes me hate it. But then I think, this is a good game, why should I hate it?

In fact, it seems the hype around Halo is enough to create hype for other games, called "Halo-killers" like Killzone and a game called Black, although that game would probably be released late NEXT year at the earliest. But these games get hyped just because people say they could be better than Halo and not because they have great AI, good graphics, etc.

I doubt it. I would say it would probably be during the next next-gen era, at the earliest, when the majority of games would be only online. IIRC, Nintendo doesn't even really care about online gaming, prefering to stick to innovation and good single-player games for the next-gen. I think the Sony head guy said something about the PS3 being used with people on a network all over a world, but he expects most people to have broadband by that time. I can't get broadband in my area, unless I get satellite or something like that, so I wouldn't be able to be apart of type of play. I'm sure I'm not the only one as well, and I feel as though it would take some time before everyone has broadband. Even when that time comes, I think that those games would still be going strong, although the online gaming market should be quite huge as well.

I know there are those Karaoke games where you have to sing that seems to be fun with friends, but I don't know if that would be great unless everyone is drunk or influenced by something else. There probably is some type of games similiar to those though. I don't know of any off-hand, but it seems as though a lot of people in Japan like getting together and playing these types of things, so I'd assume some developer got the bright idea to make a game that does this. Too bad that they are probably all Japanese-only.

    I had a feeling you'd say that. :D

Feel free to give us "insider info" on your companies games so that I could tell my friends:

"Hey, you know that game Sticky Balls? Don't tell anybody, but they are secretly working on another game called "Sticky Balls 2: The Balls Return" according to my sources." :)

Wow, I sure used a lot of quotes. Thank goodness I got that quote plugin for Firefox.

well... apparently Sudeki was no good. lucky for me because i was actually gonna put down full price for it.

i AM looking forward to Fable. as well I am looking forward to Jade Empire... that should be a great game.

i'm upset that GTA IV will be PS2 exclusive... what's up with that?

Tekken V is coming out... and it might be multi-platform. hopefully it is xbox because i really like that game. best fighting series ever in my opinion... it's just so complex i like that.

not a big shooter fan... so Halo 2 doesn't make me that excited.

    what else... POP2?

yeah... not that much time to play games anymore... :(

the Nintendo DS looks like a dud to me... even though I'm a nintendo fan (btw the new zelda looks amazing). i'm kinda sad actually... they need to get new management or something.

the PSP will be a hit. at first i thought it will be priced out of most people's price ranges... but then again... if people are willing to plop down 300 for an ipod... then why not a PSP with more functionality?

The only thing I've seen is a Street Fighter Anniversary disk coming out, which will have one of the later incarnations of SF2 (Hyper?), with different versions of the characters from the earlier versions thrown into the mix, and SF3 Third Strike.

Xbox version will be playable online via Live.

Well, Sony was smart and gave Rockstar big bucks to keep the games as a PS2 exclusive. Actually, I think the plan was to keep GTA 3 adn VC on the PS2, but I think Rockstar found some kind of loophole to then release it on the Xbox. Seeing as how it was a popular game, smart move by them, although now the parents of kids who have an Xbox will blame them when their kid does something wrong.

The little bit I saw of Tekken, it looked pretty good. It seems as though the past 2 were not as like as the ones before them, so maybe they can come out and become a big player again. It seemed, IMO anyways, that the Tekken name started to fade away and not seem all that great anymore.

I hate it when that happens. Why do these people in the game industry keep a name with a cuss word? They must know that anytime they talk to the media, their name will be censored. Change your name for all our sakes!

    J/K, btw.

I totally forgot about Jade Empire.

I usually dislike RPGs but since I loved KOTOR I'll play anything Bioware puts out.

If you want to play an ADDICTING game then try Runescape.com

This game is the main reason I'm not at A&M anymore. I would stay up all day and night playing it and would sleep during the day instead of going to class. I don't play anymore because I've forced myself to stop to put more attention to my gf, our house, and my job. I've thought about selling my character on ebay like a ton of other people have done.

They just recently upgraded the game to make it 3d, I always played, and preferred, the regular game so that also factored into me quitting. This is definitely a game you would have to "give a chance" in order to really begin enjoying it. It's so much fun killing other people on there and getting the stuff they've spent literally 10-20 hours (sometimes a lot more) playing in order to earn. Ahh I better shut up, I'm starting to want to go play.
