Ok, so I am sitting at my friend Taylor's house with about five other people doing nothing. All sooo bored. So, as any normal person would do, I start wondering through his closet where I find hungry hungry hippos. "Holy ****!" I proclaim with a great sense of joy running through my body. So we begin playing hungry hungry hippos. After about 3 minutes of me kicking everyones ass, we are once again bored. Back to the closet. Which brings me to my next discovery.... RISK! Some of my friends have never played, some have. None are too excited, but what the hell, its summer! So we sit down and set up the board. As we keep playing I find myself getting more and more into it. I mean, this is like some cut throat stuff. So as days go by, we have become more and more into this game. I mean, this is all we do anymore, and ITS AWESOME! So my question is, anyone else feel this way about Risk? Any of yall play weird variations, because we are always coming up with new cool ideas. Risk lovers unite.

dude, back in college we were all about Risk!!!! We had games that started in the afternoon and didn't finish until the next morning!!! we played with couples (each of whom were on separate teams) which led to many fights and humorous near breakups!!!! that game can lead to some wicked fights!

warning: downing tequila while playing will lead to having your armies defeated rather quickly.

RISK is awesome. I used to play with some friends in middle and high school- some late games that stretched WAAAAAAAAAAY into the night. However, now I don't really have anyone who is so fanatical about the game....:( That game is AWESOME! (I *really* suck at it, though.)

It is rather easy to beat this online game.

I got in to Risk when I saw Newman and Kramer playing it on Seinfeld. Risk 2 just came out for PC, if you like Risk the boardgame you will like this thing even more.

I first played Risk when I was about 8. My teenage cousins wouldn't let me play because I was too young, but when I finally was allowed to and started beating them, they all quit.

At UT others started teaming-up to wipe me off the board before I could get going. They also tried to implement rules where we couldn't talk during the game (I was only providing helpful advice ;) ). That kinda took the fun out of it for me.

My dorm buds tried to get me to compete in a Risk tournament that they used to have at UT. I can admit that I played the game, but competing in a board-game tournament instead of heading to 6th Street was too much for me.

    Risk is awesome!

Not to get off topic, but do any of you guys play Axis & Allies? That's pretty fun too.

    Risk is for novices. :p

If you have the friends and the time, the real game of that ilk is Diplomacy:

No dice. No cards. Just seven players with 3 fleets/armies apiece. The only way to gain more fleets/armies (the goal of the game is to reach 18) is to conquer territory -- and the only way to conquer territory is through numerical superiority.

Making alliances is the only way to survive and grow, but stabbing your allies in the back is the only way to win. And everyone at the table knows this, which makes negotiating alliances all the more complicated. :D

In fact, the real game is in the negotiations, which is why Diplomacy is often played by email. I swear that the folks who invented the "Survivor" TV series must have known about this game, 'cause underneath the gimmicks (exotic locales, silly stunts, skimpy clothing), that's basically what the show is.

where each person playing has a gun or knife in their hand and uses it to attack opponents armies rather than rolling the die? [IMG]

I've never played a game of RISK that didn't degenerate into a shouting match at some point. Some very dramatic and, in hindsight, funny situations came out of that game. Holding on to Asia was freaking impossible in that game. You had to take Ukraine and Middle East as well to have a shot, but even then you were fighting off Africa and Europe. The best was to have North America or, my personal Favorite, Australia and Greenland. Good game.

Axis and Allies, however, rules. It's the best strategy game ever concieved. It's RISK on steroids.

Uhh you did not really hear this from me but since it is summer I have been working an extra job upgrading and building machines for the school district where I work. I am working with one of the HS students and a week or two ago when we were supposedly upgrading a lab he showed me this site: MIssion Risk It has a shareware version of the game and it is really cool. It comes with several variations that are really fun to play. The thing i like about it is that I don't always win if I set the computer opponents to smart. THougth you might want to give this versiona a try.

Edit: Just a hint. When playing take africa and South america as soon as possible and if you can hold them and build your armies you will easily win.
