Bin Laden: one boy's hero (4:30) This is a Real Audio Link. It will open a real audio window from CNN

CNN's Amanda Kibel tells of an 8 year old Pakistani boy whose dream is to go to Afghanistan and meet Osama bin Laden (October 17)

This story will show you the future of radical muslims. They start them young. I was taken aback after watching that clip...

He can go to Hell and meet him there. Maybe we can book a "kids-go-free" ticket for the little jackass... err.... God willing....

I sympathize with the innocent having to die in Afghanistan, but I can't sympathize with little twits on a bike with no clue other than what is pre-programmed into their brains.

As I watched that kid ride his bike down the road, I wanted to pull a baseball bat out and knock him off his Huffy.

Watching stuff like that makes me sick.

Aren't they innocent until the actually commit a crime?

I think those kids are victims in their own right, much like children of racist bastards.

We are all programmed with something. That is the nature of experience. For children in the ME, that type of blind faith and belief that a wonderful reward is awaiting them upon death may be the only thing that keeps them from realizing how incredible their suffering really is.

I've often thought that if I had to live under some of the increidbly inhuman conditions in poorer parts of America, I would probably turn to drugs too. There is a line from a song that says about Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys, "Mr. Wilson took some pills and I don't blame him. Sometimes, it's hard to be alive."

People do what they feel they must to make it through the day. It may seem radical, but it is reality.

Exactly. The kid is not coming up with this stuff on his own. His parents have something to do with it I bet. These madrasas need to be eradicated if at all possible.

....but many of those schools are located in Pakistan which makes their closure difficult.

But would the citizens allow the closures? There are so many of those schools and parents are sending their sons, so general support seems to be widespread. Their faith moves them so strongly that the boys are steered away from a broadbased education to a tightly focused one.

The problem isn't just that parents want the schools open for reasons of faith. The fact is that most of the public school systems have collapsed in that part of the world. If they want ANY education, it has to be in religious schools. That is the sad reality of it.

I know it would be kind of hard to shut down the madrasas without providing for an alternate education system. So the first step the government would have to take is to establish a well rounded public education system that is affordable for everyone. I am sure they can find a way to include a Quran class for those looking to take it.

By the way Mango, does your email ever work? :)

    DoD & Clutch,

If y'all like the Easton-approach so much, why don't you go to Vidor, TX and practice on all the racist b*stard kids riding their Huffys around?

And, don't try telling me that those kids that are racists are any different than the kid DoD saw on TV. They're probably ridin their bikes around yelling about killing "rag-heads", just like some radical-taught ME kids are saying kill the evil Americans. I'm sure some would say that they'd love to meet David Duke, much like the Pakistani kid wants to meet Osama bin Laden.

DISCLAIMER: I know not every single person in Vidor is a racist, just that the odds are better at finding them there....

My solution: Build a free Disney Land right in the middle of Afghanistan with free bus travel to and fro. That would get that 8 year old's mind off of dying so eagerly. What a pathetic world he lives in.

Dreamer I find the baseball remark offensive also.

Let's have the reporter go back to the father and tell him that we can see how he is proud of his 8 year old son, who is obviously quite bright and exhibits leadership qualities. In fact the reporter's tv network would like to advance his education by putting him in a private secular school in Islaamabad and sponsor him for the university when he gets old enough.

Let's build a public school system in Pakistan to replace the Madrassas. Part of the Marshal Plan. Unfortunatley little minds are in power in Washington. We don't have the statesman who envisioned the Marshal Plan.

glynch: Was the Marshall Plan conceived in the first month of the war?

Are you calling Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, and Dick Cheney little minds? I know that you are calling Bush that, so I won't even ask!

Are you expecting me to somehow disagree with your statement? Yes, I feel like knocking them off their Huffy's, too. Yes, there is no difference. Now what?

Of course not. Fanaticism breeds fanaticism. The fathers produce the sons who become the fathers who produce more sons, etc. The cycle is endless. This is one reason why no matter how many times peace is attempted in the Middle East, it has failed. A group or groups decided to avenge their peoples' deaths by killing another group - end of peace talks for another round of fighting.

Schools that teach Islam are fine. Schools that teach people to memorize Islamic text are fine. However, schools that teach to hate entire countries, races, or groups are not, and this is what we're seeing in many of these places. When the reporter said the kid has never met an American and does not need to, I completely lost sympathy for him. If that is what his father taught him, then it is his father's fault, and he may be a victim, but now what? There are several nutcases running around the world who are the way they are because "they were taught to be that way". So what do we do? Give 'em a big ol' group hug?

As I've gotten older, I've become more tolerant of people. However, it's watching situations such as the world is in right now that make me pissed. I hate the world is divided into nations, I hate that there are races, I hate that there are people who will hate for no other reason than to hate. I hate that I can really do nothing about it on a grand scale. My only statement is this : if you are taught to hate, and you hate, then prepare to be hated and don't ask "why?".

As I'VE gotten older, I've learned to discern when to be tolerant and when NOT to be tolerant. Always being tolerant is a myth of A. Youth or B. Fools.

Very well put, Rich. I used to pride myself on my belief in all men are create equal. As I have gotten older, I have realized that some men are more dangerous than others, and should not be tolerated.
