our team could look every diff next year. for some reason i dont think les wants to try it again with the same team, or coach. other than tracy and yao, we will probably redo the team. Here to Stay Tracy McGrady F-G Yao Ming C Retiring?? Jon Barry G Dikembe Mutombo C Tradeable Rafer Alston G Derek Anderson G Luther Head G David Wesley G Moochie Norris G Juwan Howard F Lonny Baxter F Ryan Bowen F Stromile Swift F
well, i'd like to keep Head for youth purposes, but everyone else can take a hike as far as that is concerned. Sura, DA are damaged goods.
If Tmac's back doesn't cooperate, then the future doesn't look so good. I'm seriously questioning whether TMac can remain healthy from this point going forward. He obviously has back issues that are not going away. One game...he goes up for a jumpshot...and he comes down with back spasms. How does that bode well for the future?
i doubt we break apart a team that never got a chance to play together. i doubt this season has any affect on JVG's job.
I am riding ONE HOBBYHORSE at the moment: get our two stars REAL help. Plan A didn't work, and didn't just not work because of injuries. It didn't work period. This team still LACKS ENOUGH TALENT. They assumed Swift was going to get it and take off, he didn't. They assumed Alston was the answer at pointguard, he isn't. Seems lost most of the time and occasionally hits a shot. They assumed that DA was going to go from glass to steel, he didn't. They assumed that their "old" players had a longer shelf life, they don't. The Rockets must face their mistakes, and go to plan B. Personally, I am ready for an entirely different philosophy and a completely new look. The JVG era blew up on the lanchpad, let's move on. After watching the players on this team perform, I am absolutely convinced that if they had ALL remained healthy for the whole season that another first round exit was inevitable. Reason, not enough talent. Our role players simply don't match up with the role players of the elite teams.
Baring a trade this year, next year the team will look like this: PG: Alston, then either Lucas or Moochie or V-Span (pick one) SG: Head, then a draft pick (1st or 2nd) and a crafty vet (maybe Wesley back for cheap) SF: McGrady, then a cheap FA (hopefully not Bowen) PF: Howard, Swift and a draft pick (1st or 2nd) C: Yao, Deke That's 12 guys, with people like Baxter filing out the roster. Of the two draft picks, one will be a SG/SF type player and the other will be a PF/C. Now, if TMac misses 20+ games with back problems next year, the Rockets are going to have to talk retirement with him. You can't let this become a Grant Hill thing that cripples the franchise (cue irony for TMac). There will be some really good free agents available in 2007 (including Rashard Lewis), so you would like TMac to retire for cap purposes. That bad news about that is that TMac, when healthy, is one of the 10 best players in the NBA and is irreplaceable. Our chances of winning a championship without him are slim - Yao would have to become more Shaq-like.
The head coach has two seasons on his contract after this one. The likelihood is he will be kept for one more season. However, this season buys him no slack. If the Rockets are not in the finals next season, Mr. Van Gundy MUST GO.
Van Gundy should go RIGHT NOW. You don't keep a bad employee until you find a new one. He will only screw things up worse. Mr. Van Gundy, security will see you out. Do not come back for your personal belongings. They will arrive UPS to your last posted address. Have a nice day. We don't need a coach to tank. Clyde Drexler can handle that, while he works on his broadcast skills. When the job is open, there will be no shortage of superior candidates.
Agreed. It seems like management's plan was to surround T-Mac and Yao with players making MLE and below. They tried this before with Dream, Clyde and Barkley. It didn't work then either. They need to find (and keep) solid role players. Don't let legit starters like Mike James and Posey go for cheaper and lesser players.
I beg to differ. No one thought that James was a quality starter before this year. And remember, he's putting up great numbers in a contract year on a bad team - red flags. And we got Alston in return for James, who looks to be very good even though he's a PG on a team with no scoring options right now. And Memphis waaay overpaid for Posey, who is not exactly setting the world on fire right now. The only thing wrong with this team is injuries, and that's now because they're old (unless you think Yao, TMac, and Swift are all old). I don't think there's anything wrong with the way this team is put together. #$%* just happens sometimes, you know.
ya. they want tracy and yao to carry the entire team so they pay them the max and get cheap players to fill up the roster. the flaw in their deviant plan is obvious
