Yes, we all know there is a lack thereof. But I believe the future is bright. In the next 10 years or so, we should see an influx. Most of us are first generation Americans. So we didn't have the luxury of our parents teaching us and encouraging us to play sports. But as some of us are starting families, we can change that outlook.

It's already starting. Little kids see Lin, somebody they can relate to and with the same skin tone and it helps them believe they can do the same. Hey, i even think we are starting to see taller and bigger Mexicans and Vietnamese.

    Thoughts?

You're trying to bring down the prestige of American sports??lol

I think it's great.. I'm just scared it won't be accepted and close-minded people may begin to drift away from that particular sport...

    Nascar? lol.

I don't think it'd be an issue in basketball, but then again that's really the only sport I am a fan of. Are you referring to a particular sport, or just stating in general?

Why only Vietnamese and Hispanic? Us Indians are starting off on the same foot as well, and there are some bigger, stronger first/second-generation Indians that are starting to make their mark on the high school level in all sports. I think, in general, you will start to see the racial divide in sports start to blur over the next 25 years as there are more mixed-race marriages, and different sports start to integrate themselves into the global culture.

    Ummm, NO. :p

FYI, Pau Gasol and Rubio are NOT "Hispanics."

    1. Jeremy Lin is an Asian-American, and I'm not trying to "claim" him but realistically, his biggest influence will be SEEN in Asia rather than in Asian-America.

    2. I believe Asians will dominate more and more in sports that aren't really sports, like golf. However, I can't honestly see changes in real sport like basketball. In other words, I doubt I'll see in my lifetime, an Asian player better than Yao Ming, or a full-blooded Asian-American player better than Jeremy Lin.

There were many high ranked Indian and Asian high school tennis players, but none of them, from what I have noticed, were able to do much at a higher level.

^ LOL at "Asian-Americans" terms...

The dude is from the UNITED STATES. His face looks like he was born in Asia.

Now, Eduardo Nájera... he is MEXICAN 100%.

 Mark Sanchez... you mean... the dude who was born in the United States and went to USC? Nope. I know I don't.

Here's the killer: his parents divorced, so that makes him LESS Hispanic (Mexican, at least). [bring on the flamers! ;) ]

Who cares? quit worrying about the state of something as based on racial numbers.

I agree that the future is very bright. While Jeremy Lin is a great story there have been several Asian and Asian Americans who have competed at the major league level of sports. Leaving aside Tennis and Golf there have been football players Dat Nguyen and Eugene Chung, Asian players in the MLB isn't that unusual anymore, and we all know about the Asians who have played in the NBA. Why we haven't seen more until the last 15 years has a lot to do with both stereotyping by the culture at large that Asians weren't athletic but also by immigrant culture that didn't value sports that much.

I think Bruce Chen is a great role model for all the Hispanic Asian-Americans in sports.

    I AGREE, Señor Loco.

I care about MEXICANs. Nationality is not a race. There are black (African/Mestizo) Mexicans, and there are also white (Aryan, caucasian, etc.) Mexicans, but I don't care about their color. I care that they are from Mexico. Case in point is Mr. Nájera. Lin is from the United States as far as I'm concerned.

The future of Hispanic sports is bleak unless there is a new rule that allows them to shank their opponents.

The worthless cheap shot Mexican soccer team would benefit the most by this rule change.
