Troy Baros is an arrogant ass, but he continually pushes an interesting point. Steve probably isnt thrilled with Ming, and we are all suprised by this. I believe Steve is being selfish, but you have to realize, the number 1 pick is expected to be a FRANCHISE player, Ming is expected to be a FRANCHISE player. If i was Steve, I too, might be upset after being dubbed the FRANCHISE player, and then opting to put so much work into another one. Im not supporting Steve, and im thrilled with Ming, but I could see how he could be confused.
To maintain his "Franchise Player" Status, he should play as hard as he can, not force his team into avoiding the acquisitions of other good basketball players. IMO, the team is Steve's no matter who we acquire(reallistically, of course...If Shaq, Kobe, and Jason Kidd land on the Rockets...)
It generally takes 2 'franchise' players to win a championship so Steve has to ask himself if he really is committed to winning if he can't handle not being in the spotlight. One guy will have to be the ultimate leader, but you need as much talent as you can get and learn how to work together cohesively to win it. And remember Steve, nothing gets you more props than winning. Many great players have been lesser known just because you think of truly great players as the guys that win. Look at Bird, Jordan, and Magic. Would they be considered so great if they never won a championship? Probably not as much. They knew they were 'the man' on their teams but they also knew how to share the wealth to keep everyone on the same page. It will all come with maturity I hope. I think we'll be helped out by the fact that Ming seems to be very team oriented, so he can probably handle not getting 18 shots a night. The one thing I like about our draft tonight is that we got talented players that don't have to shoot the ball 15 times to be happy.
I disagree, when we got Drexler, he was not a "Franchise player" Pippen for the Bulls was not a "Franchise" player, McHale was not a "franchise" player. Both Kobe and Shaq are, but they had problems before they were mediated. All Im saying is maybe, no one has really talked to steve and told him that he is still the Franchise.
