http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3126850 Titans have plenty of holes to fill Expect team to take receiver or tackle in 1st round By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair did not surprise many when he made it official last week that he would return for his 11th season. McNair, who was injured so often last season that he seriously considered retirement, is still recovering from surgery on his sternum. No one would have blamed McNair if he had retired. The Titans had the worst cap problem in the NFL for the second consecutive season, and it cost McNair his favorite target in Derrick Mason, who signed with Baltimore. The Titans have the sixth pick in the first round, the highest they've drafted since selecting McNair third overall in 1995, and the only healthy receiver on the roster is Drew Bennett. Tyrone Calico, who missed almost all of his second season and is coming off major knee surgery, is the only other receiver on the roster. It makes sense that general manager Floyd Reese, who has 10 picks, will take a receiver in the first round, right? Well, check this. The only offensive tackle on the roster who has playing experience at that position is Brad Hopkins, a No. 1 pick in 1993. But he's facing a possible suspension by the NFL for a domestic violence case. Jason Bell, who started at guard as a rookie, is going to move to right tackle, but he's coming off major knee surgery. Right tackle Fred Miller was a cap casualty. Veteran Jason Mathews is expected to retire unless he can be talked into returning for another season. If you think the Titans will draft a tackle in the first round, consider this: They're expected to enter the season without either starting cornerback. Samari Rolle was dumped because of the cap, and he signed with the Ravens. Andre Dyson, a former second-round pick, is an unrestricted free agent. The third corner, Andre Woolfolk, is a former first-round pick whose first two seasons have been hampered by injuries. Because McNair has returned, expect the Titans to use their first pick on an offensive player — a receiver if they stay in the sixth spot or a tackle if they trade down. At least they have some corners on the roster.
Interesting note.. Brad Hopkins (LT), Steve McNair (QB), and Jeff Fischer are the only original Oilers left still on the Titans roster. Once these fellas are gone, I can official let them be the Titans.
We need that dude with the "SUCK IT, BUD" signature to come in here and say something. Or maybe I just want to say "Suck it, BUD" myself?
