Etheral, Psychedelic, Melancholic, Beautiful. I don't know what else I can say about this. This is my first ever Flaming Lips anything and I am floored. Buy, download, borrow this latest release from Oklahoma's, The Flaming Lips...

    other suggested listening:

Coldplay - Parachutes and/or Rush of Blood to the Head
    Starsailor - Love is Here
Doves - Lost Souls and/or The Last Broadcast
    Granddaddy - The Crystal Lake
Elliot Smith - anything by this artist
Nick Drake - anything by this artist
    Any Wes Anderson soundtrack

    rockHEAD,

you might like "Clouds Taste Metallic" too. That's a great Flaming Lips release. Thanks for the good word. OH, also:

    * latest Sonic Youth is their best in about 10 years, IMHO.

Your first Flaming Lips Album! They're one of my favorite bands of all time! I have every single Flaming Lips Album going back to 1986! If you're looking to get some of their other albums, you should just go backwards starting with the Soft Bulletin.

Soft Bulletin (1999) - This is their best in my opinion.

Zaireeka (1997) - May want to stay away from this one. It's a 4 disc set that is meant to be played on 4 different CD players in sync. They're kind of crazy like that.

Clouds Taste Metallic (1995) - More of a Rock Record with lots of overdriven guitar sounds and loud drums, but catchy as hell!

Transmissions from the Satellite Heart (1993) - My 2nd favorite Lips album. Surely you remember the song "She Don't Use Jelly"

And then there's five more albums before that, which are all good. Although the earliest ones are probably only for die-hard fans.

Maybe commercially, but that's just because they're actually good. Their 1999 release was probably the most critically acclaimed album released that year.

Does anyone in here like MC Paul Barman?

I just got his new album, which sounds pretty good so far. Prince Paul and a couple of his "proteges" produce it, so it's pretty high-quality.

The one and only Paul Barman (this is not a joke):

They're definately a great band. The Soft Bulletin is by far one of the best albums that I own. Yoshimi is good but not at the level of The Soft Bulletin. I got a copy of Zaireeka on eBay, it's really cool but can be a pain to get four cd players to listen to it with. It can make for a good event to get together for though.

They just released boxed sets of their stuff before The Soft Bulliten.

Machine Translation - can't remember the name, whatever the latest release is.

I have a deep and abiding love for the Flaming Lips. See them live if you can. A concert by them is actually almost life-affirming, which is such a dorky lame rockcrit thing to say... but it's true.
