Yep, the feeling of misplacing money. I had this 58 dollar rebate check where I can buy anything at the University Co-op, and I think I lost it for good. I've looked everywhere I can. and Nothing. One time in 1996 on my way to corpus Christi with my family, I lost my wallet which had 117 dollars in it. And this was on the way to Corpus Christi. Needless to say that weekend trip sucked. man this sucks.
Losing money sucks. But it's not as bad as losing your health. Cherish what you have. Hope you feel better.
Good lord, peleincubus. How could you encourage such dangerous behavior to your fellow posters? For shame. JBII, just snatch some old lady's purse. Much safer.
Hey, how does that whole rebate thing with the Co-op work? Can you only spend it there? How much did you originally spend to get $58 back? And I can wait until the end of next semester to get my rebate, right? Thanks... Oh and sorry about your loss...
Money comes and goes....you'll have days with unexpected financial windfalls as well, so don't ruin your day over it....look forward to the rox/spers game tomorrow
My dad used to tell the story of when he was 8-9 years old. He had worked for a good long while at odd jobs to save up enough money to buy a bicycle. The big day came. They loaded up into the car to drive into town. My dad had his $20 bill in his pocket. He also had a stick of gum in there-- one stick of gum. He didn't have any to share and he didn't want to split it with anyone so he put his hand inside his pocket and slowly began to unwrap the stick of gum. He quickly slipped it into his mouth. Wanting to get rid of the evidence, he went back to his pocket and collected the gum papers which he surreptitiously tossed out the car window. When they got to the store, his $20 bill was also gone. I think that was the last selfish thing my dad did in his lifetime. He spent his young adulthood helping to support an extended family who had migrated from Idaho to Texas. In his early 30's he got married, raised a family, and started his own successful business. RIP, dad...
When I was 7, my family and another family were in South Padre, and decided to go over the border into Mexico for a day to shop and eat lunch. Once we crossed, we parked the car, and began shopping at the markets and curio stands down there. My Dad gave me, my brother and my sister $1 each and told us "go and buy whatever you want". This was in 1968 people, when $1 could still buy you something. I proceeded to enter a curio stand holding the dollar bill above my head. I was immediately surrounded by the shopowners, eager to sell me something. They wound up selling me a little wooden box that looked like a miniature version of a pirate's chest. I gave them my dollar and trotted off. On my way back to meet the group, I noticed the exact same box in the window of another store....with a pricetag on it that said 50 cents. I started crying uncontrollably and ran back to my Dad to tell him the whole thing. My Dad smiled and hugged me, and said "you just learned a very important lesson when it comes to spending your money". Between sobs, I looked up at him and said "what's the lesson?" He said "always shop around before you buy!". I've never forgotten the lesson I learned that day when I was 7. You should see me when I set off to buy a car!
Go down there and tell them what happened. They may have a record of the rebate. There may be a way for them to see that you haven't used it yet. It's worth a shot.
My rebate from last year expired June 30, 2003 and they let me use it like 3 weeks ago...the co-op people are pretty understanding. You should try what TheFreak said.
At the Final Four last year, we went to buy some merchandise before going into the championship game. That afternoon at the casino had been pretty good and since I was going back after the game, I decided not to change my hundreds into twenties. I got a good deal on two t-shirts, two mugs and two shot glasses for $20. Completely forgetting that all I had were hundreds (guess I'm not used to having a bunch of hundreds in my wallet), I gave the guy one thinking it was a twenty and walked off. Argh.
I tried that. They have no record. I had to have kept the check. RMTex, your mentioning of south padre reminds me ofan experience I had there.. I was there for spring break in 2002 and went to Mexico for one night. I had my wallet in my front jeans pocket and a young mexican girl around 5 or 6 years old literally stuck her hand in that pocket and tried to get it. You have to guard your money real well down there.
This Treasures must be a great place. I'll have to visit on my next trip to Houston. Do they have a website?
Keep all your Co-op receipts in the orange envelope. Before June 30th, submit all your receipts. You get 10% of your total purchases back, but the catch is you can only spend it on merchandise, not textbooks.
