Damn, after enough fouling by Wannabe Thug Martin, Hobo Anderson, and Nene, the aggressiveness and anger in Yao finally came out. Now I want to see a consistency of that for the rest of the season and playoffs.
the past few yrs, the same applies to tracy (though tracy has played better in the playoffs, but he still individually can do better).
The annual 'Yao Explosion' stretch of 25+ppg is the new 'Has Stevie Turned the Corner?' stretch of sub4 turnover games. Check back with me if he stays healthy and does it in the playoffs.
No kidding. He turns the corner and puts up monster numbers only to have injuries and coaching changes push his numbers back. Look at Yao's numbers over the past couple of years - he's put up 25-28 ppg and 10-12 rpg several times only to be injured, have surgeries performed, or have coaching regimes changed. Hopefully he'll make it through this season without the injuries and TMac and Artest will come back and become team players at full strength again.
i don't think this is his annual explosion or whatver.....i know he hasn't been consistent in the past month, but for the last 2 weeks or so he's been doing much better when it comes to using his body to bang into players. He's been doing it especially well the last two or 3 games. I especially like when he he bulls hiw way into a player and just stretches up and over them to simply lay the bal in the hole. I think he's finally rounding out, he's has his jumpers and turnarounds down for a while, really developed his hook last year and know he's polishing up his power moves under the rim. I expect him to continue playing at a higher leve, but when t mac and ron come back he'll hit a road bump because they'll take time to adjust to Yao (i hope HE doesn't try to adjust to THEM).
Hmmm, It seems like Yao is fairly consistent when he is healthy....... And his effort is always consistent........That is most important.... That is why he is the 12th best fantasy player in the NBA right now
i think too much is made about Yao being injury prone. Yes history shows he is, but he's not like a tmac, who's likely to get injured, Yao has mostly just had bad luck, last year was a complete freak accident.
exactly...hapens all the time. Jerome Solomon wrote a "Yao Ming has ARRIVED!" column earlier this year only to see the Aw Shux version come back after a few games.
With competent officiating and competent guard play to get him the ball, the man should really be averaging at least 32ppg
Foot problems have historically been the norm for NBA giants. The freak occurrence isn't the injuries but rather the fact that he's as good as he is.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/6219221.html Yao Ming was furious. Far removed from his happy ride to perfection on Saturday, he had been seething all day. Then he was called for a travel on a drive stopped by Chris Anderson’s strong right arm, and immediately was hit with a technical foul, his fury rising so much that moments later when he drove to a slam as violent as he could muster it did not ease his anger. Nothing could until finally with seven tenths of a second remaining, Yao grabbed the last loose ball and wrapped his arms around a 115-113 win over the Denver Nuggets Monday at Toyota Center. "I was a little bit out of (my) mind," Yao said. --------------------------------- With the Nuggets still within two, Martin cut down the lane and past a missed defensive rotation. With Martin flying toward his layup, Brent Barry came over, but fouled Martin too late to stop him. Martin’s drive toward a three-point play rolled off with 2.6 seconds left. A 58.3 percent free throw shooter, Martin missed his first free throw, then missed the second intentionally. With Smith charging in from the 3-point line and Nene’ getting a hand on the ball, Yao came away with the ball and waited the last split second for the buzzer. As it did, all that built up ferocity left him until it no longer seemed a sign of trouble but rather, a key to a win. "It looked good today," Yao said, and then let out a satisfied smile.
He's always initiated contact, ever since JVG and Tom Thibodeaux took the reigns. None of this is new. That he is supposedly soft and shies from contact is probably one of the biggest myths in basketball. Fewer guys try to bull their way to the basket more than Yao. His problem is horrendous officiating and an incredible lack of quickness. It's just takes him too long to gather himself for a dunk, exposing him to weakside blocks.
