I had read an article earlier regarding Mark Cuban talking about how it’s important to have honest conversations about race in order for this country to move forward. Someone shared a video with me from Undisputed where Skip and Shannon discussed why it can be so hard to have these conversations. I was reluctant to watch the video, but ended up being pleasantly surprised and thought I should share it with others.

They are trying to topple Max and Stephen A

Race? More like a race for ratings

at least Shannon doesn't make me use that volume adjuster when he talks like Stephen A

We have trouble talking about oppression (note: oppression, not racism) because we pretend this is a white/black thing is found predominately in America. Oppression is nothing new.

Lets use an analogy; Whites is to black oppression/racism as Marc Cuban is to making billions off off the hard work of millions of people.

Some people take pride in their racism. Some people take pride in their belief that their skin color and makes them superior to others.

why do we always look to the media for answers?
    They control all narratives

Why are people in Houston and Orlando the only people who witnessed Jordan in the playoffs in 1995?
Why is the narrative that we can’t be the early 90s Bulls when the early 90s Rockets constantly beat them ?

Shannon said Clyde Drexler never won a title

people need to start talking to people again and not be spoon fed information from hot take shows

no I don’t trust a conversation between two million dudes on the same show

    This makes no sense.

You should apply to be Trump's Press Secretary.

This was a great conversation. I watched it live. The toughest things about these types of conversations is that you rarely find both sides, I can't think of another word, struggling. In this conversation, it is only Skip that is forced to struggle and squirm. Shannon gets to go at white people over centuries worth of wrong doing that Skip probably felt some type of way about because he played no part in it and his life wasn't no picnic.

Skip took it all like a champ, though. Shannon needs to understand that most white people did not own slaves. He also needs to understand that there were blacks who owned slaves. Skip can't push back on all of the things he said, although he did when he mentioned that the Native Americans had it pretty bad after Shannon said that no one has been treated as bad as blacks in America.

I disagree with Shannon's and many other's approach of looking so far back to things in history that only serve to build anger, resentment, and hate within many blacks against whites and pity instead of respect within whites for blacks. In addition, what this type of rhetoric does is instill a slave self image in blacks and a master self image in whites. Who knows the truth, but it wouldn't suprise me if both of them have to some degree succumbed to those self images caused by this slave history obsession America can't shake.

Skip has a great friendship with Stephen A. Smith and looks to be building a similar friendship with Shannon. Skip comes across as authentic and honest in these types of conversations as opposed to Kellerman who I'm pretty sure is a snake in the grass. No doubt the story Skip shared about his upbringing make him particularly adept at having these conversations.

As an aside, Fox has the best of these shows. First Take is solid, but Speak for Yourself is the best, IMO. Without the infamous Jason Whitlock, it might suffer in the long run, but it's been about the same lately. It is the only sports show that has mostly black people participating in the conversation.

They weren't millionaires when they were growing up. They are talking about their life stories. What takes were they expressing in this video.

They sure are millionaires now. They do have writers and production people.
Both very good speakers, it is a show, even if they are speaking from their heart, it's their job to discuss topics on tv.

my point is how much the media influences people here, especially the sports talk, go to the GARM (The real part of Clutchfans) and jump in .

I think you're drawing too much from this while playing things out in your mind. If one realistically hung out with black people or the opposite race, they would probably have an honest talk about it maybe a few times, if ever. Then it's more about treating each other with respect rather than some master/slave dynamic you think is happening because you see it projected in the media.

And it's quite possible for black people to think the same way if they didn't have good white friends and weren't forced to deal with this conversation. It's a convo that ultimately will be brought up from time to time because some people can't ignore or avoid it in life even if they wanted to.

Getting beyond the discomfort or awkwardness is part of the point of having real dialogues. Burying it or distracting with whattaboutisms described in the vid has done no one any favors, just frustrations and worries.

I like to think it's more of getting to understand how we can provide and support each other with a dignity that's easily taken away by our current culture.

If Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless or Stephen A Smith and Max Kellerman
are the pillars of race relations in America

Then this is really the Truman Show (movie indicated that life revolves around reality tv)

    Cancel culture is too risky.
