    Hey crew

Have been a long time reader but not much of a poster as i didnt get to see many games until this year. Like every fan i am a closet super coach and wanted to voice my opinion and get your reactions on a defensive rotations and strategy.

So my observation from watching the last 4 games (even the one we won) is that we appear to be reasonable in our initial defensive set up but when a player is broken down by his opponent we cant seem to react to counter it.

For example when wall blew by lowry or ish we either had 4 plays goto wall and him dish or everyone just watch as he strolled through the lane.

The lack of team defense in relation to reacting to a situation seem to show a real lack of either a commitment to D or a poor understanding of our defensive strategy. Given that we were extremely effective in that area last year i was wondering if the new personel have brought this with them or we have just dropped our marbles.

    Thanks in advance hodg

I agree with the observation but the overall problem is that the perimeter players are getting blown by at an unacceptable rate. And, even more frightening is the team doesn't trust one another defensively. They react (or choose not to react) knowing that their teammate won't recover in a reasonable amount of time. They're faced with the decision of guarding their man or their teammates' man instead of what good defenses do contain their teammates man while their teammate recovers.

got to rep this while I can, just in case hodgo doesn't post again in a year.

I agree with pmac on this...penetration is happening at unacceptable rates...help defense can't against in time without exposing something else. I also do believe we can simply be more active, and concetrate on no mistakes. That fixes a lot of things on defense, which JVG/Thib were so good at instilling into anyone who wanted playing time.

I'm definitely watching our defense and rebounding tactics a lot, as will as you...and also watching the opps defense for comparison. wish I could watch 10 nba games a night.

    I love NBA defense.

well, I mean, Ariza is a difference-maker. KMart isn't horrible, but he's not a noticeably good defender, either.

I happen to be a super coach as well. It's all around really guards aren't physical enough and allow penetration. Bigs are slow rarely rotate in time and then there's the pick and roll which is horrible as well. Poor switching and no step up on the outside shot particularly by Scola who makes no effort he sags off. Rebounding is disgusting due to a lack of size and more effort than anything.

And while I'm here coaching, offense is far too stagnant with no one really moving without the ball. Entry passes are the worst I've seen in years. Adelman's offense is far too predictable with pg coming down, big sets a screen at the top of the key for sg or sf to come around. Really need to get back to fundamentals on both ends of the floor.
