I apologize for starting another Cato thread, but this one is not just about how pathetic he is. Now, I haven't been a Cato supporter at all since the beginning of last season, but I think I might have just realized what will motivate him...Competition. Not from the other team, but at his own position. Tonight Hakeem returned, and Cato know he will probably lose his starting job soon...so he really tried to play tonight, at least when it mattered in the first half. He jumped to block shots, ran the floor, and grabbed some rebounds. I think his problem has been is that he gets too comfortable sometimes with his position on the team. Most of the time when he is starting it is when Dream is injured, so he knows he has no major competition at center. Whenever he has to battle for playing time is when he is at his best. So, in order to play him to his full, or at least half potential, the Rockets must have another center to challenge him for his playing time. Hopefully if the Rockets cannot trade him this summer they can at least bring back Dream or another center to challenge his spot. Thoughts? ------------------
If that's the only way to motivate Cato, then I say screw him. It's a Catch-22. When we need Cato, he's lackadaisical. When there's another center on the roster who can get the job done, then he works. What's the point of a $42 million center if you have to have someone else on the roster just to make him do his job? Screw it. The only way I'd go for it is if Collier were to break out next year and motivate him that way.
