I have a friend who works for the most-listened to FM station in town and has offered me what he calls a "cant-miss deal." He wants me to advertise Texas Fudge on the radio for $100.00 for a period of one month. During this month, Texas Fudge will be mentioned at the top of every hour, once an hour, 24 hours a day for an entire month. It sounds like a great way to get my name out there even more......but I dont know how much these spots usually go for so has anyone here ever spent money advertising on the radio? This is the top FM station here; plays all of the new stuff. The only thing I am unsure of is how long the spot is so thats something that I will be sure to ask but I dont expect it to be very long at all for this price. Any thoughts or comments?

$100 doesn't sound like much to get your name mentioned once an hour, twenty four times a day IMHO. That's like a Cell phone bill with extra features.. I didn't know radio advertising was that cheap!

It normally isnt that cheap but he is doing a "special promotion" whatever that means.

I remember the only other time I looked into it......they wanted to charge me 400.00 a month and it was only mon-fri and the 7th caller would win a pound of their choice of fudge. My name would only be mentioned at 5pm for this giveaway. Basically I was paying someone 20.00 a day to GIVE my chocolate away LOL. I declined that offer, suffice to say.

Um, take the deal. That's a great deal. Either that's a great deal or my fam is getting totally screwed in the AM market. Actually, I do think we're getting screwed, but wow...take the deal. Can I get that deal? We sell insurance.

Let's just say it's once a day every day on one station, and once a day 5 days a week on another station, 30 second ads. It's minority radio (not english). Oh the deal comes with a monthly or twice a month talkshow/infomercial that lasts half an hour to an hour. And it costs a lot more than what your paying.

    Here's a better angle:
Chase Bank is running underwritings for student radio stations all over the USA. Underwritings are ads with restrictions...the types of ads you see on PBS after their shows. Anyhow, Chase Bank is paying every major student radio station $750 for one month of promotions linked to some college program of the bank. The promotions consist of ads every hour or possibly less I think, and also a day handing out free stuff for a few hours, and putting up flyers around campuses. But I'm pretty sure the payment is $750 for the month.

So yeah, you're getting a really good deal. I don't know why you're hesitating so much. He is your friend right? So unless you think he's a friend that wants to screw you, you should take the deal.

In Beaumont, which should be a similar market size to Midland, the typical radio spot costs about $25-$30 for a minute daytime spot. $100 bucks for 720 mentions is an amazing deal.

100 bucks seems awfully low. Unless of course, the radio station has a listenership of about 50 people.

He said it's the most-listened to radio station in his hometown (Midland). I'm guessing that it's a lot more than 50 people.
