Especially when compared to "Ultimate Fighter" on Spike... I want to see boxing, not crowd reaction shots, and cameras panning to Sly, Sugar Ray, and freakin' Burt Reynolds every 10 seconds. Whoever emerges from The Contender is gonna get his ass handed to him in a real fight.
I like the show, but they do pan away from the fight a lot at the end, which sucks. Perhaps they don't want to show the stale parts of each round.
why start a thread on a show that sucks? do you see threads on 90% of the shows on TV...no - but they do suck. if you don't like the show...ignore it. it's just that easy.
Other than Stallone giving boxing advice as if he was an actual fighter, I think this is the best reality show on tv
The contender as a piece of tv is 100x better than TUF. TUF is just a bunch of hyped up dudes hanging out in a house, flexing, getting drunk, and generally acting homoerotic punctuated by fights. Contender actually tries to tell a story with real characters and tries to make you care about their lives, and cheesy as it may be, is damned effective at it. Now, I'd like it too if the Contender didn't heavily edit the fights at the end but that's a separate issue By the way, Ishe Smith is undefeated and considered by many to be a top 10-20 middleweight, so I wouldn't rule him out. It's not as if the tools from TUF are going to be any good either, btw.
I saw one episode and I wasn't impressed with it. It seemed like every other reality show to me. It was the episode where they received their first suit and that one guy beat up that cocky prick. I couldn't believe it when the next day I had Rome on and some guy called in talking about how touching the show is. He made it sound like he cried when the show gave them their suits.
