Barack plans to use the last week of the campaign to roll out his closing arguments to why he should be president. This will be capped off with his television appearance on Wednesday. "Defining Moment" <object width="486" height="412"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vJvkRFKGgGw&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vJvkRFKGgGw&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="486" height="412"></embed></object> "At this defining moment in our history, the question is not, `are you better off than you were four years ago?'" Obama says. "We all know the answer to that. The real question is will our country be better off four years from now?"
I still don't like the 30 minute TV buy for some reason. I am an Obama voter, but that 30 minute TV buy just seems like overkill. I worry about it having an adverse effect, firing up opponents or some such when they are otherwise having low, shoulder-shrugging spirits.
this should put the stupid "empty rhetoric" argument to rest.. can you get more specific than that? I don't think so, no matter how many "maverick" arguments you use to justify how great you would be for president.. HOPE...
Think about it this way. Out of 30 minutes' time frame, only about 22 will be true air time. Barack will talk for about 12 minutes, commercial, video of the campaign over the last 20 months;5 minutes, commercial, button on the reason to vote Obama-Biden; 5 minutes. It won't be overkill, just a 22 minute campaign ad.
Based on the last 18 months of his campaign, this TV buy by Obama will (at worst) have no effect or will make a powerful case for his candidacy. Personally, I think it would be a mistake for Obama to play it cautious because that's bitten him before. He is at his best being bold and out of the ordinary and acting with a sense of urgency. There isn't much downside to it IMO. I'd bet < 0.1% of people that watch will feel worse about Obama than before.
Yeah -- I acknowledge the chances of a negative effect are small. And I have to acknowledge that: B-Bob political skill <<<<<< Obama political skill I just gets nervouses. I do like that ad in the OP a great deal. That's the way to spring to a finish. As opposed to painting "Stop (other candidate)" on your bus.
Well today's almost over. And weekdays always go by fast. Friday we're leaving. It's like two days really. It's like a cup of coffee. It will go by like that.
Ummm, are you sure about that? Was that reported somewhere? It's essentially a paid infomercial. Infomercial don't have commercials because they are commercials themselves. Do you think Obama is going to buy air time on the major networks and let the networks sell some of that air time back to advertisers? No way. It's not like a sitcom where they only make money from advertising. The networks are getting paid for a half hour. If Obama is paying for that time then he's going to be the only one using it. I'm expecting a full 30 minutes from Barack.
I agree. That Times article before about how he's learned from the campaign over the past two years was excellent for pointing out the instances in which he's gone with his gut and not fallen into certain traps, like the time McCain tried to pull a fast one by suspending his campaign and the Democrats were urging him to follow suit so as not to look bad. As the first two debates demonstrated, it's not enough to play defense. That would be like the Texans letting the Lions come back after trying to run out the clock instead of doing what had racked up tons of points for them in the first half. Obama knows he's got to show the country he's willing to stick his neck out a bit even if he's got the sizeable lead. And major public appearances have been his strengths in this campaign. It'll be fine.
Nobody's bothered by the fact that the end of his ad has the words Barack Obama President? A little early for that now, c'mon.
