Ok guys. as HP wanted to do lets talk about the rockets needs. the most pressing are of course the forwards at PF and SF. im gonna make a list of everything that COULD happen on draft day. and all my fractions and % dont add up they r just a raw estimate of probablity. Picking a player at the #9 pick and staying put. the most likely canidates Mike Miller- about a 1/5 chance he will still be on the board. Jerome Moiso- about a 85% chance he is still around. i'd say we pick him if miller is gone Darius Miles- about a 40% chance he will be there. if he's there i think the rockets will pick him no matter what. Dermarr Johnson- about a 1/2 chance he will be there. if the first 3 are gone we pick him i think. Isvalikis Tskaliks or whatever his name is- about a 1/2 chance he will be there. i think we look hard at the first 4 and i think they will pass. Olumide Oyedeji- about a 90% chance he will be there. i think they would take som1 else if available but i wont rule him out. Fizer or Swift pulling a Paul Pierce and miraculously landing in our laps.- about a 2% chance this will happen, and a 100% bet we pick them if either falls into our lap Martin, Mihm-no chance either is available period. Joel Pryzbilla- about a 75% chance he is there. i dont think we will pick him and i PRAY we dont. Trading the #9 pick To move up- i'd say we only move up if mihm goes #1. and if we did it would be with the clips. unfortunetly i dont think they r taht stupid. i'd say moving up to get say a swift has about a 10% chance so not very good odds and i seriously doubt we get him. To trade for a proven veteran player- Seattle wont trade rashard lewis so scratch that out. now i know trades cant happen but they can but they can announce their intentions like davis for bender last year. if croshere wants to play here, and say the pacers want a 2 like alexander to replace miller if they know he will leave or a center like pryzbilla or whatever they want, we could try to make a trade happen but i have some big doubts on this. if we really were crafty we could draft pryzbilla to portland for brian grant along with some other stuff highly doubt they will go for that though. i'd say the chances of trading our pick for a veteran is about maybe a 1/15 chance. our most pressing needs are PF and SF. let me know what YOU think the rockets will do with their draft pick. and we will need a C if we decide to trade cato. lets talk needs here HP instead of digging up old threads. and lets talk about THIS YEAR not what we will do next year because thats a whole different ball game. you guys can do what u want but i hate going through old 200 post threads. adios. A few draft notes from John Thompson: I think you might want to move the Fizer/Swift thing up a few notches maybe to 5%. Not for Swift, but Fizer was measured at 6'6'', and apparently didn't have a good Orlando workout. Kenyon Martin was measured at 6'7'' 1/2 Swift is about 6'11'' in shoes. Dermarr isn't expected to be 6'9''...most think 6'7'' but it doesn't really matter for him. Quentin Richardson may rise again....he's measured out as 6'6'', maybe 6'7'' in shoes. Courtney Alexander measured at 6'4'' 1/2 Olumide has been said anywhere from 6'9'' to 6'11'' He also floated out some pretty strange Iverson rumors....Bibby/#2 for Iverson? Claimed G Hill is a near lock for Orlando, and they may give the #13 to Denver (Why is it always Denver that Orlando is giving it to!!) Ok, and no more JT stuff. I'm not too sure Darius will be around at #9....40% seems awfully high. Pryzbilla's stock is pretty high right now.....75% is really high. If we were to trade with Portland, it'd more likely before for Jermaine O'Neal. O'Neal/Cato would be pretty interesting up front. On one AOL board I read, a Clippers fan said that Swift is working out for the Clips, and wouldn't mind playing for them. Take each thing for a grain of salt. ------------------ Rockets fans wanted at hoopsboards.com Draft Chat, NBA Chat, Team Chat, and more!
NIKE i dont think 40% is too high in fact 3 or 4 major mock drafts including ESPNs i think have Miles to us. i think 40% might be a little high but not too high. id say the chances of getting him are maybe say 1/3 or 33% is that better? pryzbilla was too high. say 1/2 chance then or 50%. sorry i forgot the bulls will want him if mihm is gone. dont think swift will workout for the clips. if its just a fan he's proly full of bull. every1 says he doenst wanna play for em. Q is still too small for SF. i dont think portland will trade oneal after they gave him a big contract and all the players like him alot. including quitten. thats intresting on fizer.. i think he will still be good though. reminds me of barkley alot. thx for your comments NIKE especially the ones on JT. ------------------ --TEX
Portland allegedly is talking to Chicago on trading O'Neal for #4 or #7 (they want Pryzbilla). O'Neal wants playing time, and can't with Sabonis in front of him. Chicago wants him, cause he's friends with TMac and Tim Thomas, and allegedly, the three have talked of playing together. Some scouts think that if Q is 6'7'', he's big enough for SF. From looking at JT's article, some of you draft mongers may have to re-think your mock drafts. Also in that article, why would Orlando or Chicago be interested in Shawn Kemp at this stage of his career? Especially for a lottery pick in return, even if it's a low-lottery pick. ------------------ ?
This height difference between Swift and Martin is very interesting. It sounded fishy that Kenyon Martin was 6-8 in his junior season then magically became 6-9 a yr later. Cincinnati did the same thing with Pete Mickeal listing him at 6-7 when his real height is 6-4 1/2. Watching both Swift and Martin play, it sounded very wierd that they were the same height because they just are not. Swift looks a good bit taller and longer on the court than Martin. I didnt think the difference would be 3 inches but apparently it is. Wonder if these height measurements will push Stromile Swift into the top spot. The fact that he is 6-11 and is so incredibly athletic and has long arms proves extremely intriguing. New Jersey I think will still probably go with the senior and take the safer route with Martin and that would leave a very special talent on the board for Vancouver. Marcus Fizer is the classic tweener, it will be interesting to see if the Clippers decide to take him at 3. I dont think he will be a total bust, but he just is not going to be a star. He'll be a solid PF that works hard better than the likes of Trent and Fortson but will not hit the superstar status of Webber, Duncan, McDyess and Garnett. Luckily for Fizer, he handles the ball well and can face up or else the jury would really be out on him. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Guys while thats all good on swift, fizer, etc. i was hoping to talk about what the rockets need and who would fit best with them and what they could possibly do realistically this offseason and /or draft day. if it involves aquiring certain players mentioned fine but i mean we arent going to trade up for players like fizer, mihm, c.alexander, etc. ------------------ --TEX
speaking of Kemp, I wonder it seems to me that one of the few sides who could afford his contract and might consider taking him on at this stage in his career are the Clippers. Say they get to number three and swift is the best player left and we know how he feels about the Clipps (and who can blame him?) Do you think The Clipps and Cavs might consider a deal, just a thought ------------------
Shawn makes lots of $$$$$. Why would the frugal Clips want a big contract like that? Mango ------------------ Live long and prosper. Donate Blood!
Well since we r talking about needs in the other thread scratch that here. back to this thread mango has a good point the clips r so cheap they wouldnt want his contract. hell they wouldnt trade a scrub for garnett cuz they dont wanna pay him. actually i shouldnt compare swift or any other player to any1. let stromile swift be stromile swift. ------------------ --TEX
