The Case for Custodian and T-Sak: More Juice for the Gyro

    Trade Juwan Howard and Ryan Bowen to Memphis for Brian Cardinal+Jake Tsakalidis


    Why for the Rockets:

    Juwan isn't effective next to Yao. Ryan isn't effective next to anybody.

    Cardinal's contract is a year longer and he's had some injury problems, but when he plays, he is highly effective (some high +/- numbers during his healthy seasons). He is Padgett with more defensive ability. Spaces the floor well for his teammates and makes all kind of hustle plays-- almost like Shane Battier.

    T-Sak is a FA after this year, but holding his Bird Rights means Rockets would be in position to sign him without digging into the MLE (earmarked for Bonzi, perhaps?). Can also sign and trade him to another team if that team doesn't want to dig into their MLE.

    T-Sak is highly effective in his minutes this past season (14 mpg, 22 mpg as starter during the last 2 months-- very high +/-, rebounding rate and FG%, halfway decent shot blocker). He would be great as a primary backup to Yao-- both after Dikembe retires and even this season if Dikembe doesn't have much juice left.

    Besides, he's Greek, so he can show VSpan where the best Gyro joints are in all the NBA cities.

    Why for Memphis? They are in cost cutting mode due to the new ownership. They are also probably lotto bound anyway since Gasol is out for a few months and the Western Conf is just killer.

    Cardinal's contract has 4 more years, Juwan's has only 3 more. Juwan may also fit their team better than he fits the Rockets. At the very least, Juwan is more durable than Cardinal.

    Tsakalidis may be their only real size other than Gasol, but if they are losing with or without him, and he's a FA they don't really want back (again, cost cutting)... letting him go isn't much of an issue. They might as well get in on the Odem sweeps.

    no real Greek would eat a gyro here in the states because they taste like crap with lamb. Go to Athens and get you a gyro with pork not lamb and beef.

    Tsakilidies and Cardinal are scrubs anyway, at the best of times.

    Cardinal played well for like, half a season, got a major contract and went suspiciously off the radar after that.

    we dont stand to gain anything from this trade. We'll either be the same or even worse off.

    with the MLE most likely going to bonzi next summer, juwon getting even more useless with age, and deke hanging up the hightops...i'd say we better trade for a big before the deadline.

    yes, cardinals contract is horrible but i wouldn't mind jake tsak.

    Juwan is one of the worst regular players in the NBA, makes a lot of money, and Bowen is the worst back up in the NBA -- why is memphis doing this? Because they're tanking in search of inknown commodities? Otherwise it makes no sense.

    Memphis is gonna suck this year anyway. It is only a matter of saving cash for them.

    That team is not going anywhere without another high pick.

    Yall just gonna drive yourselves crazy proposing trades for them.

    This is like the 1000th Juwan for such and such thread.

    i know that no one wants howard or his contract. i don't think we will ever be able to trade him until the last year of his contract.

    however, howard and deke can't be our back-up front court for much longer and next summer's MLE is most likely going to bonzi.
