While he is not getting the playing time to but up big numbers, Matt Bullard is doing very well in limited minutes. In just 13 min/g his stats are: pts reb assts stls tos blk 4 1.67 1 .33 .33 .11 He started shooting better last game (40% from 3-pt land) and he has a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio. He also is very good at moving w/o the ball, setting good screens, and is playing some of the smartest ball on the team. IMHO the Bull provides good veteran leadership for this team and I hope the ROX decide to resign him. Just some positive thoughts I had for this season so far. ------------------ Don't come in Bullard's house!
Bull is a player that really compliments this team, so when he gets playing time he will perform. The Rocks know that so he'll be in a Houston uni for the rest of his career. I don't mean to be gratuitously mean or anything -- but what the hell are you talking about? His sole purpose is to: hit the three. He's currently hitting 30 freaking percent of them. I'm not saying Bull won't wind up shooting a very good percentage, but to say that his start is anything but awful is . . . awful? ------------------
I figured I would ignore this thread, but I cannot resist myself. I have to defend Air Bull's honor. He is my favorite Rocket who was not, is not, or won't be a superstar. Air Bull does much more than just hit the three, but he cannot do it on a consistent basis, so Rudy does not give him a great deal of minutes. But Bullard is a veteran leader, and when Rudy puts him in the game, and asks him to do something specifically, like shut down Shaq... then by God it gets done! Luckily I am sure that Rudy has not yet told Air Bull to do this, which would in effect destroy my theory... heh heh heh. ------------------ She hates testicles, thus limiting the men she can admire to Democratic candidates for president. -- John Greenway, "The American Tradition", on feminist Elizabeth Gould Davis
Another theory - one that works - is that Bull & Rudy understand and do not argue with each other. Each knows the other's role (they're both role players), and each understands Rudy's System - probably better than any of the other players do. Bull goes in and looks for the open shot. Not a 3, necessarily, just an open shot. If a lane is open, but a big man/men's still there, he'll pass to one of the guards. Just about always... Bull's got his role down to a science. He knows when to pick, when to look for the open shot/pass, and sometimes even when to create his own (tho Rudy certainly doesn't expect that). If nothing else, he gives us an occasional boost with those threes... But I suspect he does more than that overall... He gives us continuity. That's better than consistency, on a team that's looking at 25-year olds to become Vets - NOW.... ------------------
I agree with treeman. If you judge Matt Bullard solely on his 3pt%, you've missed a lot. Bulls stats are somewhat misleading as he is actually playing well at home. Like all of his teammates, he has suffered on the road. I hope it doesn't take another injury for us all to realize how well Bull fits the Rockets. ------------------ GATER
The only thing I'm disagreeing with is the following: "Matt Bullard is doing very well in limited minutes. In just 13 min/g his stats are: pts reb assts stls tos blk 4 1.67 1 .33 .33 .11" That is wrong. Matt will probably wind up doing fine this year but so far he has SUCKED. ------------------
There is one thing good about Bullard you always know what you are going to get.More so than not he will hit his outside shots which will keep his man occupied where other players can get off.If they dont come out on him he will score 30 points off of open threes and you cant afford that.He has improved a lot since the last time he was with the Rockets! His 1st time with the Rockets he couldnt do anything else but hit the three point shot. ------------------
Treeman, what do you mean by saying Rudy and Bull are both role players? Did you mean someone else and Bull? ------------------
