I posted this the other day, but it was buried at the end of another post. I think it deserves it's own subject. Does anybody know when/if the games will be on TV for people who are not able to receive channel 51 out of Houston? The entire broadcast situation SUCKS. This is my first ever post. I was waiting for something worth writing about, and this is absolutely it. If you live north of The Woodlands, you can pretty much forget about watching or listening to the Rockets over conventional media. 610 AM does not even come in after dark. Channel 51 doesn't come in at all. I can listen to Spurs and Mavericks games to my hearts content, but can I get Houston? NOT EVEN CLOSE. I am about 40 miles south of College Station, an hour out of Houston, and I can not pick up ANYTHING. I don't know the inside scoop on what is happening with the media situation, but I can say that as long as I have been watching, since the late 70's, it has NEVER been worse. NEVER. It's very difficult to get enthusiastic about a team you can't see or hear anything about. Enthusiasm generates support, support generates ticket sales, ticket sales generate revenue. Les is a businessman, I am certain he must understand this fundamental aspect of sports marketing. When he begins losing money, this is one of the most logical areas to point a finger at, and somebody will probably lose their job over the situation. GET THE DAMN GAMES ON A TV STATION PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY WATCH!
Buy a ticket to Compaq! Ok, you're right -- but Fox Sports has dropped other teams in other markets, so are the Rox making the right broadcasting 'calls'?
(1) There is a reason why the blackout rule only extends out 35 miles. You are pretty far outside that zone. If you have cable or satellite, get League Pass. (2) Complain to the folks at 610. They know their signal does not travel north well (heck, I know people who get dropouts IN the Woodlands). Some of that is due to power limitations, some due to physical limitations. They are trying their best, but it has always been that way. (3) From your description, you are probably better off trying to tune in the College Station affiliate. (4) Over a dozen games will be on KHWB, and 30+ games will be on Fox Sports Southwest (check the schedule). The organization did take into account the limitations of 51. Good luck.
I can feel your pain buddy, i live 2 hrs driving from houston and can't see, hear nothing from the Rockets games....that's why i ordered NBA pass from direct TV, and "Yao ming big man pack tickets".....support the Rockets.... go to the games. good luck!
You can blame the WWE. UPN was one of the best stations to broadcast Rockets games, but they are so afraid of the rednecks down here not being able to watch their precious Smackdown, they don't want to sign a new contract with the Rockets. Hopefully, Vince McMahon's product will get so poor that people will stop watching it, forcing UPN to look elsewhere for better programming Two more things: 1) Les has been losing money for YEARS because of the sub par stadium he's in and the crapy lease he has. He'll get more fans next year when the new arena opens, which will generate some more excitement and he's hoping to get a TV deal on a better station. That's why he only signed a one year deal with KNWS 2) Thank god that games aren't being shown on THE TUBE anymore...
