Here's your NBA Dish forum thread to keep a close eye on Nachbar. I realize that not playing for 2 1/2 seasons in Houston probably says all most need to know about his NBA readiness (or if he ever will be), but at the same time we really know very little based on his game action. As unlikely as it may be, I would like to see Nachbar succeed. He makes his New Orleans debut tonight.
I hope Snackbar succeeds for the simple fact that it would make Jeff Van r****d look like a r****d. Hope Eddie Griffin goes on to become an All Star as well.
I swear if this happens it'll be like the Astros, all of these talented player let go and shine somewhere else from Randy Johnson, Curt Shilling, Carl Everett, Hidalgo, and list can go on and on.
??? Not sure why you included him on the list. I just don't see Nachbar ever becoming more than a 8th or 9th man off the bench. I hope he succeeds but won't count on it.
If he sucked in the summer league which is full of rookies and scrubs, I doubt he will excel against real NBA players. But maybe someday he will be a poor man's Ryan Bowen!
Hate to derail this thread, but Johnson was too expensive for the Astros, Everett didn't do much besides become more of a hothead in Boston, and Hidalgo had a good couple of weeks after he was dealt but thats it. I hope for the best for Boki though.
Boki just nailed a triple, then got fouled on a drive immediately afterwards... going to the line for two. I think he'll see significant PT in New Orleans.
Boki's First game for the Hornets Played pretty well. I watched the game and have to say i think he is going to have some fun in New Orleans where he is seeing some playing time and not worried about JVG over his shoulder. He looked a lot more relaxed and just going with the flow of things in New Orleans as compared to playing with the rockets. Stat line for Boki tonight 24 minutes 7 points 7 rebounds 2 assists 2/6 shooting from the floor and 1/4 beyond the arc The most amazing stat was 0 Personal Fouls for him in that much time. Like i said he was just more relaxed and playing free flowing basketball.
key stat: 30 minutes....0 fouls...1 turnover hmmm.....could it be the coach???? could it be the way the coach is always breathing down his neck that he presses when he's on D. Could it be that given a good amount of playing time (not sporadic 3 minute intervals) that he could be an efficient contributor? sure looks like it. add in the fact that he grabbed 7 boards dished out 2 dimes, blocked 1 shot, and had 7 points on only 6 shots. Like I said, and always believed, boki's can play. I don't think he was ever given 30 minutes once in his career as a rocket. First game for a new team, he played the majority of the 4th quarter. i'll repeat this... 30 minutes....0 fouls....1 Turnover where's all the "he's foul prone" bs now. He played the suns too. They're one of the most athletic teams in the nba. All the guy needed was a chance and some consistent PT.
It is clear to me that Boki can play in the NBA but not for an idiot like JVG. Put him on a team where he can contribute and one that runs a motion offense etc, and he will do very well. GO BOKI !!! I hope he does well, and CD and JVG get run out of town because of it. DD
I'm pulling for the guy. I think he'll have a productive career -- in the NBA provided his 'head' doesn't get in the way in the future as it has with the Rox. BN was not a fit here with this team, this coach. That doesn't make him a loser or a bad guy. If the problems persist, then ok. But, I suspect he'll blossom into a worthy rotation guy.
I think that it is not uncommon for players to have to change location in order to succede. The three who come to mind immediately for the Rockets would be Terry Teagle, Craig Ehlo, Avery Johnson, possibly Eddie Griffin, and perhaps even David Wesley, who had a cup of coffee in training camp in Houston before he stuck in Boston. In the other direction, you'd probably talk about guys like Vernon Maxwell, Lewis Lloyd, or Mario Ellie, and around the NBA guys like Willie Burton, Tom Gugliotta, George Lynch, Chauncey Billups, PJ Brown, and I'm sure 1,000,000 others had to go to different situations in order to grow their games to the point where they could have some degree of NBA success. My point is that if Boki becomes a decent player, it's not necessarily a sign of Rocket's mismanagement, but instead an unfortunate, but natural development in the course of NBA player development.
What about Yao? Sprewell doesn't seem very happy up in Minnesota anymore - with his kids starving and all...
Yea, they'll probably trade him for some old guy like they've been doing. The Rockets went from middle of the pack in age and now they're like one of the oldest teams, not counting Barret, Gaines, Yao, and T Mac. Anyways, i watched the game on NBATV but the channel started working like at the end of the second quarter, did anyone else see that?
