in addition to the myriad other coaching failings of Rudy T, the guy has yet to take a team of fast, young, athletic players with great stamina and develop ANY sort of transition game. The Rockets, based on the age and athleticism of the roster, should be outscoring every other team significantly in transition -- in fact they must because as a younger team they can't be expected to execute as well in the half-court as a more experienced team. Yet they continue to be among the worst in the league in transition. WHY? And don't tell me it's because the Rockets don't have enough rebounding, or some other personnel issue. That's BS. These guys continue to make the same open courts mistakes game after game, on the rare occasions they actually press the issue. Explain away, Rudy Apologists.
I have always wondered why the coach is to blame here? I mean come on people do you see Rudy holding the players hand when the shot he takes does not go in? Of course not! Blaming the coach is not the answer nor firing him is the solution. This is a young ball team anyway you put it they still have a few years ahead of them to be contenders. You do not break up a team just because of one bad season or two. Key ingredients to a championship caliber team are: Faith and trust in teammates the ability to adjust to certain roles and play that role. Be a team player do not just blame one person blame yourself and the team as well everyone takes the loss. Give credit where credit is due and blame where its given. CATO Francis Cat Griffin Mo KT Mooch shuffle what you want but keeping these players will assure you a top spot in the west in the coming years! Trade any of them and you now have a disgruntled Franchise player. Despite the loses I enjoy the play of the Griffin Cat and Francis and Cato and mooch they blend well and the gel is just starting! I love my team and I love the players and Rudy to me is one of the top coaches in the NBA.
If thats the biggest reason Rudy should be fired, I'd say he's got some fantastic job security. And one other thing - Rudy isn't getting fired. When he wants to stop coaching, he'll retire to a big house somewhere out in the 'burbs and probably stop in from time to time to assist the then-current Rocket brass. If you don't like Rudy as coach, tough luck, neither Les Alexander or Carrol Dawson seem to be similarly inclined, so live with him.
Rudy should not be fired. But, do you think he has asked Moochie to stop dribbling the ball for so damn long? Surely if a coach you respect (and your coach) tells you to stop doing something, you don't do it anymore. It only makes sense. But I like the way this team is going, being led by Francis, Griffin, and Mobley.
Maybe we should hire Calvin as an assistant instead of losers like Mike Wells and Jim Boylen. Also, our trainer is clueless. Let's bring in Jeff "Mad Dog" Madden, the Texas football trainer.
I think if he stopped standingg up calling plays after every rebound would help the team . They just don't get the concept of running , filling the lanes, having the ball in the middle of the court and he trailer. Its part coaching, part common sense, both are sad to see and results in poor attendance at home.
We should bring back Bill Fitch. Any guy that shows up to a game in a Halloween mask has to be a good coach (~1985-6).
Do you have a list of what teams are leading the league in transition points, and the average age of those teams? Since you say: The Rockets, based on the age and athleticism of the roster, should be outscoring every other team significantly in transition I was curious as to whether there were any facts to support that claim. Going by your assertion, the youngest team in the league should be leading it in transition points, right?
Part of the problem is that the guards are too busy actually getting the defensive rebounds to be able to release out on the break - I guess that would not be RT's fault due to the injuries and/or lack of solid frontcourt players on the roster. But the other part of the problem, the fact that the guards walk the ball up the court most possessions and do not even look for semi-transition opportunities, is definitely an RT problem. The guards probably are hesitant to run when RT's is calling half-court plays in their ears almost every possession. *as always, IMHO - pls do your own due diligence*
I think the reason is the transition game isn't so good, is because players need to be familiar with each other and where they're going to be on the floor, etc. The team needs time to play together without constant injuries and that part of the game should come.
I still maintain that Rudy could use some help. A college coach to learn from and groom that mixes with the players well. AS for the transition game, remember our players don't seem to play D in a half court game that well: especially our guards. So it's not surprising they can't for transition either. On offense, if you guys think any of the guys out are our rebounding answer, I disagree. This team has missed a good rebounder since Barkley and someone who knows how to pass for a fast break since Dream. And anyway our indecision would probably screw that up as well. DRIBBLE, DRIBBLE?Those things I blame RUDY for.
You have got to be kidding? Let's hire a college coach for Rudy to learn from? Who would you suggest? Can you imagine how quickly Rudy would be snapped up by another NBA team if we did fire him? He would probably be the highest paid coach in the NBA and we'd get someone like what'shisname who Latrell tried to strangle. I do wish we could get our baskets more easily. If this means pushing the ball in transistion or trading for a higher percentage low post scorer than we currently have then either is ok with me. Something we could go to in the last 2 minutes of a ballgame when the opposing defense really clamps down. But I don't think the problem is Rudy. He's not perfect but he's a very good coach (great?) and the players love playing for him.
