Someone opened this thread on realgm.com and most fans agreed the answer should be Yao Ming. What is your opinion?

probably yao....and he doesn't get any calls because after every turnover or strip he just claps his hands and has that "dagummit, i'll get it next time" look on his face....if he b****ed and complained to the refs on a consistent basis like every other superstar then he would probably get more calls

I remember a time Ginobody did his whirly dervish thing into the lane, had nowhere to go ... jumped ... spinned around 180 in the air and hit a positioned, standing Yao with his back, and got the blocking call. Yao was definitely outside the circle. Ginobody was flying backwards in the air. sigh

I've never seen a player get bailed out with a blocking call when he wildly runs into the defender going backwards.

Yao, too obvious. I think the refs personally hate him or something. Should easily be getting 10 free throws a game.

    Deron Williams

Tony Parker, his game is very aggressive, should be near the leaders for all guards, both point and shooting.

Steve Nash, the calls are actually sporadic for him.

I was gonna say Parker and Deron, both of them barge into the lane pretty often and they're not rewarded like Wade or hell, Harris (10.7 FTA a game? wtf).

Nash...not so much. I don't think he brings it into the lane that often.

...the calls are SLOWLY getting better for Yao, however. This season is probably his best season with the refs so far. There's at least 1-2 no-calls each game where Yao goes for a block or he holds his ground under the basket that would definitely have been called every time a few seasons ago.

That said, the refs still don't call obvious fouls when guys are pushing against Yao on defense or guys hacking Yao when he makes moves.

yao will get calls only if he goes HARD each and every play like the biggest guy in the NBA should.

in the 3 games where he got 10+ fts, he attacked double teams and was relentless.

if he played like last night near the end where he got blocked/stripped and just whined, he isn't gonna get calls.

the same thing applies to tracy.

tracy attacked last night -> got calls. if he settles for Js -> no calls.

That's what happen when Yao plays slow and soft most of the time. He shoot fadeaways and tries to do soft layups when he's next to the rim. He always tries to avoid contact unlike players that get to the foul line because they are looking for contact.

Yao get's hacked constantly. I don't deny that he seems to have weaker hands than one might expect from a big man, but that guy gets hit all the time and the refs don't call fouls.

    +1

Maybe even (shock horror) Manu Ginobli? He gets less FTA per game than Johnson - and the way he flings himself around in the lane you'd expect a few more!
Maybe flopping doesn't really pay off?

Refs dont like to give him calls since hes so big and so automatic from the free throw line.

are you kidding me? No one in the league shot more FTs on less minutes last year than Ginobody. Overall, he shot more than Duncan, and almost 2 a game more than Joe Johnson. Besides, forget the stats. Just watch the games. He gets plenty of calls...certainly not close to deserving the suggestion that he cannot get calls.

Francis and Wade come to mind. But at least those guys go forwards most of the time.

What does that have to do with BS defensive fouls called on him?

Yeah, I could see that, but part of my point was that they'd only get the call if they flew backwards into Yao.

Unfortunately a lot of big men don't get those calls. Yao is big and slow like Shaq so any little contact is exaggerated. Nba guards are so good at creating body contact and Yao moves slow so that doesn't help either. I rather see Yao try to hurt opponents that take the ball in rather then try to draw charging fouls at 7'6. Make them think twice before he does that again.

Yao should try what Van Gundy calls the verbal flops. Tmac, Vinsanity, and many other star players have started doing it more to exaggerate the contact. That helps more then throwing 2 hands up in the air and giving the refs the whinny look over and over ala kobe.

Its because he is a big Chinese Man. If he were a Big black man--he would get more calls imo.
