Yes... and "bless you" my child! :D

PG Gus Johnson was a bigger, stronger version of Tony Parker
SG Phil Chenir was a lot like Rip Hamilton
SF Truck Robinson played a lot on the blocks but had good range (Elton Brand-- I know EB is a 4 although smallish)
PF Gus Johnson was a ferocious 6'7" PF who could rebound and score and monster-dunk (think Dennis Rodman with more O and less D-- Rooman)
C Nate Thurmond was a defensive shot-blocker (Eddy Curry might catch him)

Ah, those were the good ole days.

    Sort of a self-defeating thread.

If no one remembers them how do we know if they're any good?

Hmmm I've read about Nate Thurmond actually. Not the other guys though.

Have you no imagination. These are players that I remember but that I don't think other people either remember or appreciate properly. You don't have to have seen them play-- just know enough about them to endorse them strongly.

Giddyup, it seems there aren't many other old guys on this board.
Is the first Gus Johnson on your list actually Gus Williams, who teamed with Dennis Johnson on the 1979 championship team and the 1978 Western Conference champ? He was an exciting, up-tempo guard who loved to shoot. He, Johnson and "Downtown" Freddy Brown gave the Sonics the best backcourt in the league at the time.
I saw everyone on your list play except Washington's Gus Johnson, and I've heard plenty about him. All were great players in their time and deserve to be remembered much more than they are.
I would add to your list Connie Hawkins, an incredible talent who is more remembered for his role in a gambling scandal ( in which he was later cleared) than for his on-court talents.

I disagree on your Nate Thurmond selection, I think most people who are into the NBA have at least heard the name.

    How about Maurice Stokes instead?

    Yes, thank you.

I also would want to throw out there PG, Kevin Porter. Even the Van Arsdale twins.

I'm just wanting to have some fun with NBA players who have been overlooked. They don't have to be old just becaue I am! Just underappreciated.

I would expect them to have heard of him but he was always a very distant third in consideration to Wilt and Russell.. and then came Bob Lanier and Kareem. He was just never at the top of anybody's list.

About all I know about Stokes is that he got knocked down by some illness in his prime, but he must have been pretty good.

Maybe deckard or glynch or Dr. of Dunk could illuminate his career...

If you're looking for an overlooked center, how about Alvin Adams. He played with the Suns for close to 15 years and was one of the first high-post, great passing centers. He gets forgotten because he was undersized and not a spectacular scorer or shot blocker, but he changed the game as a different kind of center, and he nearly won a ring in 1976.

    Good list.

You could add Gail Goodrich, Randy Smith, Phil Smith, Andrew Toney, the Williams' brothers all in the backcourt. Mo Lucas, Jim McMillan, Happy Hairston, Bobby Dandrich, Chet Walker up front. Sam Lacey, Alvin Adams, Jack Sitma in the post.

    I'm old, too.

Alvan "stole" the girlfriend of one of my HS basketball teammates while at OU. He came to our 10th reunion. He was very effective for a long time

Bob Love was another good one.

Luke Jackson, PF with the sixers from Pan American as I recall.

In terms of credit given versus credit deserved.

Hakeem Olajuwon belongs at the top of this no-respect list.
