after being baited by r2k, i thought i should share the glory of the greatest game in the world. it's a shame it's not really played anywhere but here in aust (there are small leagues in europe & LA). The players are just awesome physical specimens. they run hard for 80minutes, effectively doing a half marathon, EVERY WEEK over a 22 round season (plus finals). they tackle each other hard. they take spectacular "marks" over there opponents, and sometimes teammates. the guys Tarrent (the black & white striped top) jumps over here are all at least 6'2" and it is illegal to use your hands to push off & get extra spring/height. look at this clip (bottom of page) for examples of cool marks (aka "spekkies"). It's a super fast, highly skilled game. Can get huge scores (no soccer 0-0 draws here!). A better bunch of athletes their aint! as the nba says - I love this game just wish i was good/fit enough to play it for a living!
well the last thread on this got like 3 people banned i think after it turned into a "they're better than nfl'ers" debate. lets try to not have a repeat of that shall we.
Mark E: Anthony Rocca vs Geelong As the Pies get on a roll, Anthony Rocca decides it is time for something special, launching himself with a classic knee squat high over a heedless Cat
The best game in the world is Soccer. But the best game here in the US is footbal, then baseball, then basketball....
I noticed it, too. I'd like to take this moment to name-call harumph, a complete moron, for not even bothering to tell people what sport he's talking about. Great job! harumph's next thread: "Don't you like it when the thing runs and then when it's done, they all get together but it doesn't happen?" -- droxford
Of course, y'all could be called morons since it's pretty damn obvious what sport he's talking about.
OK, now that I've actually done some slight homework, and since the idiots in this thread refuse to say it.... This stupid thread is about Australian Football There. That wasn't so hard, was it? Learn how to use a bbs, people. -- droxford
Watersport, naturally. ; ) I vote for baseball as the best sport in the world, by the way. There is no clock. The game features the best of team sports and individual competition combined. Other than ice hockey, baseball requires the most skills needed to perform even rudimentary tasks in the game, with hitting a baseball the single most difficult thing to do in sports, arguably. Yet, everyone can play the game and have fun. Most of all, I think that baseball rules because its history is living with every pitch and with every game. There just ain't no poetry in Aussie Rules, mate. ; )
yeah the same NFL where the players wear excessive padding and helmets, whereas Aussie Rules, Rugby and League all have just as much contact, but no padding and helmets
Damn B-Bob, you made me spit at my brand new flatscreen. Ok, not brand new anymore, I guess it is running on 6 months now.
