The admiral was on radio today around noon. dont' recall the station. Max Kellerman filling in for Dan Patrick. Anyway, it started out as an interview about the Spurs/Pistons matchup. When asked who was the best center he faced, the Admiral politely equivocated for a while, then said it was between Hakeem and Shaq. A moment later, he said Hakeem. In Robinson's words, if there was a guy you needed a basket from down the stretch, he would pick Hakeem (over shaq). Hakeem could beat you so many ways (he would know) and was a complete player on both ends. since there isn't much news these days, I thought I'd share this little bit. I got the Hakeem on Hardwood Classics on DVD for father's day. Excellent footage of young, raw crazy Hakeem. How he would dunk from 5 feet away on rebounds!! Also got the 5 dvd set of NBA championships. It has Clutch City and CC II on DVD. I've been wanting to replace my old tapes. Now I have them forever, assuming that my little one doesn't scratch them up with her Dora DVD's.
The CPO (when he face The Dream, at least)'s press comments after HO just schooled him after the MVP award saying that it was hard to say but he felt he played Hakeem well (sic).
Netflix has it broken down into 10 discs... CC1 is on Disc 6 and CC2 is on Disc 7 I just sent back 6 and am expecting 7 tomorrow. Rileydog, do you have a dvd drive on your computer? If so, you can use DVD Shrink to back them up to your computer drive, adn if you have a dvd burner..you can even make copies of them and keep the originals safe and scratchfree.
i'm not sure he could've responded any other way after the 1995 WCF. of course, you can't really blame drob, hakeem was schooling someone that series and drob just happened to get in the way. and i think the complete quote was he said he didn't know how he could say it with a straight face, but he thought he played him well. that's gotta be a helpless feeling. it's not like drob sucked at D or something. just another in the line of players who have taken hakeem when asked to compare him to others.
Robinson probably still feels guilty about the MVP trophy he won when Dream made him look like an idiot by the way Dream outplayed him and embarrassed him in there meeting in the Western Conference Finals.
It's funny how, until the Rocket's won a championship, the media was hyping Pat Ewing at the best center of that era. Ewing was good but he was no Olajuwon.
I think that has to be my all time favorite quote. I remember him saying that, wish I had the video of it.
David Robinson is never ashamed to admit that Hakeem was better than him. Many Rockets fans hate him for getting that MVP award over Hakeem. But it was not his fault.
D-rob got his and so did Hakeem. Ewing is the only one who got shut out, but it's not like he did that bad either. He had his shots. It was an exciting era for centers. Then came shaq. But Hakeem beat him down too.
