Were y'all more turned off in 95 (after the strike and no world series) or here in 2008 (the year after Bonds became new home run king and Mitchel report) Not an Astros poll just baseball in general, unless you only follow the Astros than I guess it's an Astros poll. or maybe you don't care
I'll always support my Astros. My support for them doesn't waver because of things like the roids or the strikes. So I'm just as excited as ever.
There's no way the answer to this will be this year by most baseball fans. We've known about steroid use in baseball for years and still MLB's revenues have been rising, nearly reaching the NFL's. 1995 by far for most fans...I didn't care then either.
1995 was worse to me. I guess part of it is that the steroid thing has been going on a while, it didnt all come to a head in the past offseason.
While both situations sucked, I have never even considered not watching or going to games. My love for baseball has actually grown since I moved to Austin and I get to go to Round Rock Express games. There's nothing like the minor league experience...especially when the team you go see is directly feeding the team you've loved for the last 28 years.
what does this have to do with the Astros? In 1995, it was a double edged sword for me. I was pissed about the strike but happy to watch non-replacement players when they started Now is about the same as it was this year for me as last season but I have heard folks say they are not going to watch and others say they just don't care so I thought a poll was in order.
For me,there has been a cleansing effect.Whether it's a show or not,I think the average fan's awareness has been raised. And THAT is a good thing. What's socially acceptable these days is another story, but I am returning to my first love with a hunger for our national pastime like I haven't felt in years.
1995 was far worse. What we've talked about this off-season are events that happened years ago. i'im guessing if Selig knew where all this was going to go, he wouldn't have put the Mitchell Report together. having said that, MLB skated anyway since the media could only focus on one particular person named. the magic of naming names.
agree 100%, Clemens was the big fish and it's helped MLB sweep things under the rug without having a test in place for HGH
I was turned off last year. But that was to all sports, after the Rockets lost in the first round of the playoffs.
I've got tickets for when the Yankees and the Red Sox come to town so Manny, Big Papi, and A-Rod better be all nice and roided up those weekend cuz I paid Drayton McLane prices for those tickets. LOL. But really winning usually cures all so if whatever team your routing for is winning then you will probably get past it a lot quicker then say if you were a Pirates fan.
if the Astros need to cheat to win the World Series, than why not? its not like Baseball is fair and uncorrupted. If the Yankees can win with juicers, so can any other team. its only fair.
I enjoy baseball; I'm not a huge fan, but I follow the game. I must say, 2008 is bad. All of the implications and accusations flying about the integrity of the game, the poor competitive atmosphere in the NL Central (at least from the perspective of an Astros fan), and the uncertainty that surrounds Roger Clemens. However, I must say that 1995 was worse. Canceling the World Series in 1994 left such a sour taste in the public's mouth. It practically killed baseball in Montreal, which had been a steady market in all years prior. It wasn't until the home run chase of McGwire and Sosa that the public paid attention again. Baseball was all too ready to accept that chase it made the sport relevant again and now we're learning that exciting summer was tainted. However, baseball embraced the steroid-infused chase because it did what they had not yet done - repair the damage from the strike.
Whichever year it turned into home run derby. Can't remember when that was; early 90s maybe. Either that or whenever baseball cards stopped being affordable. Either that or whenever the field got bigger for me in little league (60' 6", 90', etc); so late 80s maybe.
NLC should be one of the more competitive divisions: Chi/Hou/Milw/maybe even Cincy/Stl have legit hopes to win it.
