If Southern Cal does get by California and UCLA and reach the BCS title game, it could have to deal with a lot of distractions. Word is that the Houston Texans might do everything in their power to persuade Trojans Coach Pete Carroll to return to the NFL.

That’s assuming, he would even consider the Texans part of the NFL.

He’d be crazy to go, but it couldn’t help the Trojans’ mindset. Personally, I still think owner Bob McNair should look hard at former Texas All-American Jerry Gray, defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills.

Gee, should I stay at the most successful college football program so far this decade, be worshiped by thousands of people, and have carte blanche choice of and endless supply of California high school football talent, or take a job with the worst team in the NFL and probably get fired after one losing season...

    tough choice...

Mack Brown passed on Jerry Gray twice for Defensive Coordinator, why should we hire him for Head Coach?

Thats coz he offered him a Co-Defense Cordnator job. Gray wanted it all.
    Would u leave a NFL D-cordnator job for a College Co-D Job?

Carroll isn't built to do NFL coaching. You need more of a disciplinarian especially with a team as undisciplined as this one. Carroll is more of a player's coach that everyone likes. He can run the show with overwhelming talent but in the NFL it becomes a question of maximizing what you have and Carroll proved he couldn't do that. I like the guy a lot but I'm not sure he's the guy we want.

He would be a bigger flop than Spurrier. Might as well bring in Al Groh.

This team is an equivalent of a college team, so Carroll should have no problem coaching the Texans :D

seriously though they need a tough as nails coach who won't take no crap from anyone

Does Buddy Ryan still coach? Ugh, now THERE'S a scary thought. Carr would end up a smear on the field and Buddy would still be worrying about if the D was getting enough Gatorade or something.

Pete Carroll? Not just no, but HELL NO!!!!

Jerry Gray, on the other hand, is going to make an excellent NFL head coach, and I would be very pleased if McNair hired him.

Anyone that watched the USC - Notre Dame game could see that Pete Carroll is an idiot. Wiess coached circles around him and all Caroll could do was stump up and down the sidelines, mug, and pray that Reggie Bush would do something spectacular. Pete Caroll is a total joke and hiring him would guarantee the Texans the distinction of laughing stock of the NFL for the next 5 years.
