There are some folks who claim you wait until the last minute to get the best value and deal available.

I am not one of those folks.

I believe you take the first fair deal that comes along, maybe you think you can get a little bit more, and maybe the person you are doing the deal with thinks they overpaid a little.

But, at the end of the day, it usually is a fair deal.

There are some people that get addicted to the "Screw job" deal, where they take someone in a deal and start to say no to fair deals looking for the "screw job".....

I think DM might be in that category right now.....

Honestly, if the team gets left holding the bag for Tmac, it will be very dissappointing, sure they don't want to screw themselves in a deal, but some of these deals being mentioned seem pretty even, and shockingly we have not pulled the trigger.

When you wait until the last minute, the field thins, people that would like to deal with you, move on to take another deal and you limit your options.

The Tmac situation feels a lot like that to me, like DM is playing hard ball, and in the end it may cost the team getting ANY deal for TMac.

If I am jumping the gun, I will eat my words, but I make a lot of deals, and have seen people fall prey to the "Screw job" deals and force themselves into an untennable situation.

I hope that is not DM, but it sure looks like it from the outside.

Why don't you just wait a few hours and see what happens for sure instead? In about 17 hours we'll know for sure if McGrady is still with the Rockets.

really dd? you've made alot of deals in a closed cap enviornment with multi-million dollar assets, future draft picks and free agency involved.

oh nevermind. i'm sure the trades you've made are right in line with what an NBA gm is doing.

i really think DM has been playing poker. He's was holding an ace and gambling of the flop of a bad economy and multiple teams selling off assets. When the Maloofs dropped the Monarchs, the Hornets got out of financial hell and the Raptors played good enough ball to stay in it, his flop sucked.

It did however, give him an outside shot at a straight with teams like the Knicks and Bulls looking to clear cap space. These hands aren't as sexy and have to be just right to continue with.

His other option, which is potentially more viable than the straight, is to sit this hand out and try it again during the draft/free agency/next trade deadline.

All in all, the man has options and is not being forced into playing a bad hand.

last point and something rockets fans should know all too well (cough sean elliot cough)

sometimes the best trades you make are the ones you don't

its a gamble, just leave when you win some, don't over do it because in the end, the casino will always win.

Your operating under the assumption that you have all available info. We have no idea what is true and what isnt.

I am perfectly happy with where we stand.

    In Morey I trust.

Well Cleveland made a last minute deal that has translated to Mo Williams and Shaq essentially.

I don't think its that bad to be honest. Worst case scenario is we don't trade T-mac at all. Which is what we've dealt with for half a season and I don't see why we can't deal with it for another half a season.

Nope I agree. I've been saying all this time that we risk getting nothing out of this whole thing.

Both rumored deals by Chicago and NYK were fair...and we've kept them on wait...what does Chicago do? They find another trading partner and have moved on.

Look at the Suns, they had their deal with Cleveland. Supposedly they wanted to make Cleveland wait just a bit longer...the Deadline is 2morrow! Cleveland has since moved on.

Now we are hearing rumors that the Knicks are going after Tyrus Thomas? It's like Morey is trying to screw the other team.

Yea yea yea...deadline is 2morrow but if i'm judging it by now, it is not looking good. I hope I am wrong and we get what we want...but we can't underestimate Walsh and he is also thinking of this teams future.

    Stud,

I am not saying that at all, I am generalizing on types of deals.

Of course we are going to wait to see what happens, I am just saying, I have seen a lot of folks addicted to the "Screw job" deal and that sometimes can hinder the ability to make fair deals.

Agree on the "Let's wait to see what happens" but you guys have to admit the pool of suitors is shrinking by the hour if not minute.

I still have hope, but this smells very familiar to me.

And yes, I have made more than a few multi million dollar deals......I just wish I got to keep that money.

    :)

well what proposed deals are you refering to? Remember that the NY deal reported involved Hill, then it was reported the knicks didnt want to oinclude him, so technically that "fair" deal was never a true one. Might apply to the rest as well.

I'd bet if you asked him, Morey would say that he would do that trade again. Besides, the Rockets would have drafted someone else if that trade didn't go down if I remember correctly.

DD, you need to have faith.

Remember the prophecy you made a while back saying all the thing about the McGrady situation and then your 7th thing was he will be traded after he got done b****ing about not enough playing time? You were right on. And im sure you were still right on. The Alston and Lowry trade and even the Ron Artest trade came out of nowhere. Thats how Morey works. Expect the unexpected.

hill was probably included. but the morey made walsh wait and walsh saw no other team had a better offer than him even if he took out some pieces and now he's daring morey.

now morey is kind of showing his desperation if he's trying to recruit other teams and walsh is just waiting at the end. when morey says yes and walsh will include hill, the pick is protected in 2012 or not even at all.

DD- I feel the same way. I would jump on Hill/Hughes/Jeffries and 2012 first round right now. Maybe even giving that pick top 5 protection.

The more I watch film on Hill, the more I think at some point he will be a good PF. His footwork is pretty sharp, and he is big and pretty rangy for his size.

I also think in regards to the chicago deal, that Salmons (despite his contract) really would have filled a need for us.

We don't know how much cap space will be available next year. If the cap is higher than expected, the rockets could potentially get a better player in free agency than any player they could get for T-Mac in a trade.
