people always talk about the D'antoni boost, where players get huge stats playing in D'Antoni's offensive system. I think there is just as big an Adelman effect that helps us in trades. Look at the players that have arrived and left Houston in Adelman's time. All the increases were in the season directly following the trade or the same season so player development is not a factor other than the system. Trevor Ariza - since getting traded to a better team, he has worse FG%, worse 3PT%, worse Assists Carl Landry - since getting traded, worse FG%, worse rebounding Artest - worse 3PT%, worse rebounding, worse assists All the above are per 36min stats and not raw stats, so this adjusts for playing time. Now look at the new arrivals who have signifcant time. Lowry - increased FG%, increased 3p%, increased rebounding Martin - increased FG% Miller - increased FG%, increased 3P%, increased assists
To be fair, Ariza's FG% dropped when he came here from the Lakers. Different role etc., but that can be said about the other players on your list.
I didnt think Ariza was that good anyway Ron Artest percentages dropped because he is a rhythm shooter and he can't jack up shots like he did here because Kobe Bryant will bench him if he does Carl Landry's percentages dropped because the level of talent around him is not as good as it is here.
That's because this offense spreads everyone out. The ball is always (at least supposed) to be getting swung around and it's designed for players to end up with open shots or layups.
Pretty good insight. Landry even started for the Kings last season, when he was traded to SAC. To be fair to him though, they had Tyreke Evans, who is a major ball-stopper. You could argue Aaron Brooks last season was our "Tyreke Evans" but Landry came off the bench for us, limiting PT with Brooks, while starting with Evans.
That can be said across the board for ex adelman players. Bonzi wells destroyed the spurs under Adelman. But then he gets to Houston and can't get on the court. Not even close to the same player. Peja was never the same. Webber sucked after he left. Doug Christie had a big dropoff. The Bottom line is you really run Adelmans ofense it is going to give you better shots and all of your percentages will get better.
also Von Wafer, who was scoring close to 10 points per game under Adelman. but we need to sell Brooks and Budinger while Adelman effect is still working.
we've slowly taken out players who didnt fit this offense and brought in those who did....loooks like it's just about having players that are better suited for this offense. Once you have more players that are suited for it, than are not, it's easier for the others to blend in and improve. Also, the team culture, with adelman or without him, is better than the culture of those teams. Despite all the injuries and rumors there's less stress, bickering, and issues in the lockerroom. If you like your co-workers you're likely to work better and harder.
