Hey, the Texans finished at .500 this year. Although they got there by beating J-ville's second-stringers, I'll still take it! Did anyone else predict 8-8 for the season? Post your favorite or infamous moments from 2007. My favorite moment was going 2-0 for the first time (at least I think it was) and watching Schaub and AJ hitting long routes those first two games. Good times.
I predicted 10-6. I thought we would at least split with Tenn and beat ATL at worst. With AJ in the lineup this would've happened. Many flashes of brilliance yet inconsistency plagued us somewhat mostly attributed to the MASH unit that was the Houston Texans this year. The good news is we're one step closer ... for a change. You can ACTUALLY see some progress with the progression of the franchise.
My favorite moment: Well for once there were several worthy of this honor but ... I'll go with Mario becoming Supermario getting the hat trick vs Denver before a national TV audience and the Texans beating the Broncos on both sides of the ball soundly ... 31-13. That was a watershed moment for the franchise, a really BIG win! That's the shining moment for me.
That Atlanta game still haunts me. We didn't do well, and we should have beaten that team. That's the only game that really pissed me off. Atlanta sucks. If we beat Atlanta, we are 9-7. That game vs Tennessee at home. We were getting our asses handed. We come back to take the lead. We get one stop, and we win. That's 10-6. vs the Browns. We show up in the second half, we might win that one. I can't say we would have. vs Miami. Kris Brown bailed us out. That could have easily been a lost. I'm still thinking we should have gone 9-7 at worse. If Andre was healthy, who knows. He is our best player. My favorite moment was game 2 vs Carolina. Schuab to AJ for the touchdown. It felt like we had some type of offense going. I think Ahman Green also scored a rushing touchdown. AJ got injured and it may have changed the course of the season.
yeah, predicted 8-8 with a ceiling chance at 9-7.. and I was pissed that I stopped online gambling and didn't have a chance to be in Vegas to get the over on 6.5 wins And yeah, what could have been without all the injuries.. but mostly Andre. And somewhat Schaub/Green (though you can't expect Green to be healthy all year at this point in his career)
I predicted 6-7 wins, 8-8 is a good year, but we didn't beat any good teams and next years schedule seems to be a lot more difficult. So this offseason and next season should be very interesting.
Speaking of second stringers....we played ours pratically all season long or for a significant time. We were the most healthy week 1 and 2 and had two awesome wins, especially in Carolina. 8-8 is pretty impressive considering. Offense QB - Sage Rosenfels over Matt Shaub RB - Ron Dayne and Darius Walker over Ahman Green C- Mike Flannigan over Steve McKinney G - Mike Brisiel over Fred Weary WR - Andre Davis over Andre Johnson T - Charles Spencer still not back Defense S- Will Demps and CC Brown over Jason Simmons and Glen Earl CB - Fred Bennett and Von Hutchins over Dunta Robinson and Demarcus Faggins Special Teams KO - Andre Davis or Dexter Wynn over Jerome Mathis PR - Dexter Wynn over Jacoby Jones
My favorite moment of the season was when Andre Davis ran back two kickoffs for TD's against the Jags. It really put a nice cap on the season.
I had them finishing with between 5-8 wins. While I won't quibble about how they got there (8 wins), I am most concerned at how uncompetitive they were inside their division (1-5). Nothing is going to change for them until they can first start beating the teams in their division. Only then should they start using the "P" word.
The 1975 Houston Oilers finished the season at 10-4, but did not make the playoffs. Pittsburgh was 12-2, and Cincinnati (wild card) was 11-3. Houston's four losses? Two to Pittsburgh, two to Cincinnati. You have to beat the teams in your division.
On the flipside, Jacksonville this year went 11-5, but only 2-4 in the division and 9-1 against everyone else. Winning within your division is helpful certainly, but outside of tiebreakers, all the games ultimately count the same.
I think I predicted 9-7 with all the injuries 8-8 was a great accomplishment for the team headed into next year. My favorite moment was the Bomb to Andre Davis to complete the comeback versus the Titans. They just didnt finish it which would be my worst moment. .. Overall great year we are a mediocure football team! Thats miles and miles from this time 2 years ago. And on top of that we learned Mario is the real deal and started to get national respect. I'm not sure if any team has 2 better players to build around on defense than the Texans.
I think I predicted a finish of 9-7 but said I would be happy with 8-8. My favorite moments were each of Mario's sacks, b/c each one made me feel better about not drafting Bush or VY (I was so pissed when we passed on both of them) A healthy Andre Johnson and Ahman Green and we might have won 10
I thought the Texans would go 7-9 so I am happy with the season. I will say this though, after the 2-0 start I thought they would win 11 games. All in all, I am very pleased with the way the Texans ended the season winning 3 of the last 4 games. My favorite moments from the 2007 season: 1) Andre Johnson's 73 yard touchdown catch against the Chiefs. 2) Mario Williams first career touchdown. 3) Andre Davis returning a kick for a touchdown right before the half against Jacksonville. 4) Andre Johnson's touchdown catch against the Saints. 5) Mario Williams's three sack performace against the Broncos.
I predicted an 11-5 season for the Texans. Even with all their injuries I thought they could have done better than 8-8. It's a step in the right direction, and with the draft and free agency, we should see the first winning season in franchise history next year. Positives for me were an overall maturing of the team. I think in a couple of years we will have one of the best defenses in the league. Kubiak seemed more comfortable being the head coach this year over last year. With the extra year under his belt, the players trust him in running the team. Negatives include scoring in the red zone. The Texans need to get into the endzone more instead of settling for field goals. Touchdowns win games, field goals don't. Another thing is our third down defense. I don't know where we rank, but it's got to be near the bottom of stopping offenses on third down. I watch our defense make nice plays on first and second down but then lose the battle on third down. Stop the offense on third down and then celebrate instead of jumping up and down when you stop them on first or second down. Overall I feel we are headed in the right direction and I am excited with what the next few years will bring.
Uh ... did beat TB, a playoff team, that at the time had to work harder to get in the playoffs because we beat them in early December. You know ... I'm just saying. That should count for something.
The only things I can argue with are: 1. Andre Davis has proven to be a better return man than Mathis. Mathis also is accident prone. 2. Demps is better than Simmons. IIRC, Demps is a pro bowler. 3. Bennett was a FIND. He is better than Hutchins orm Faggins. It is likely that Robinson and Bennett will be the starters.
For me, this season was successful on a few different fronts. 1) We made it to .500 for the first time in our existence, and have finally put a mark on the league. We are no longer considered pushovers, and the playoffs are a distinct possibility for us for several years to come. Everybody seems to have come to a consensus that we are an up and coming team with a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. 2) We have established a true home-field advantage it seems. We went 6-2 at home this year, and our two losses came against Tennessee (after fighting our way back into the game, and only losing by 3) and Indianapolis (that was the first game we didn't have AJ, and we lost Steve McKinney, Jacoby Jones and Ahman Green during the game, and we still only lost by 6, after playing our hearts out). If you can win at least 6 out of 8 home games each year, that really takes the pressure off when you're on the road. Kubiak seems to have instilled that attitude of protecting your house. 3) Guys like Sage, Andre Davis, Kevin Walter, Ron Dayne, Darius Walker, Mike Brisiel, and basically our entire secondary established themselves as players in this league. It never hurts to have depth, and we now know that if one of our starters goes down, we can plug in the second (or third, even) stringers into the game, and we don't really lose a step. 4) Mario Williams. What more can I say? The guy proved every one of his detractors wrong this season. 5) Amobi Okoye and Jacoby Jones look like the real deal. AO kind of dropped off after mid-season but the NFL grind is a lot more harsh than college. If JJ doesn't get hurt, I think he would have taken at least one punt back for 6 this season. I expect big things from both of these guys next year, now that they know what it takes to play in the league.
