Yep. It’s still TV money that separates the rich teams from everybody else. Manfred/MLB wants to nationalize local TV rights (which would significantly help the small/middle market teams… significantly hurt the big market teams). The NBA figured all of this out with half the games…. And all teams/players got richer. Maybe another 2 off-seasons of 23-25 year old NBA players getting $70 million/year extensions leading up to the 2026 MLB CBA negotiations will help the union realize that baseball/MLB (despite being uncapped) has fallen behind other leagues in salary increases… and those increases are universally is happening in all professional sports (can include golf/tennis/pickle ball if one chooses). With all the streaming, cord-cutting, platforms offering 30 new shows/month, netflix mike Tyson boxing, etc. etc. etc…. There’s exponential growing money in the pro sports TV market and this is despite the archaic “tv ratings” system saying less people are watching. Advertisers also prefer pro sports vs. any other iteration of tv entertainment…. And advertisers will continue to advertise forever, regardless of the distribution system. But I fully expect baseball to stick their heads in the sand, point to pictures of Babe Ruth, and continue to let teams negotiate the oblivious TV cable rights packages that have been pretty much the same since 1993.
