Anyone going to check the race out? I'm thinking of heading down and trying to get a spot on the backstretch for qualifying ~ not sure if I really want to sit out there for the entire race. For those interested CART is one level ahead of Indy cars (Indy 500) but below the top of the line Formula Ones. The event in 5/11 -- 5/13 ~ the Le Mans race is a nice bonus because in addition to Le Mans cars they usually have Lamborghini, Ferraris, Porches, Vipers, etc. racing along with them.

I'm more interested in the Le Mans event. Its a truer racing form, imo.

You've got to be kidding me ~ a freaking Grand Prix race through downtown Houston and there is zero interest! If this were a Nascar race there would probably be a 100 posts already you rednecks... :p

I guess seeing a car roar down Fannin Street at a 180 mph is more common than I thought.

I went downtown to qualifying and it was extremely cool.
It's a better track at Reliant but misses some of the ambience of blowing down a downtown street at 130 mph. I'm sure the people that worked in the buildings won't miss it though, it is LOUD.

I will definitley be there for the Le Mans race...I think on Friday Night!

Which race did you go to 2001?

I have friends that live on Westheimer near Numbers and they said the the cars were loud all the way over there.

I was by Reliant about a half hour ago, and they were doing time trials. It was REALLY cool and loud. Those big screens set up on the track are going to slow traffic to a standstill on Kirby when the race is on.

I would have taken my son this weekend but my wife took him out of town so I'd rather not go alone.

How long has Houston had this track and race? Well, this is the first I have heard about it.

The track is mapped out in the parking lot(s) of the Reliant Stadium complex.

I've been to a couple formula 1 races... very very cool stuff. Not sure about this, though, as I'm not much of a racing fan.
