What's depressing is that this would have worked if not for all the extra, stupid rule gimmicks or unneccessary WWE cross promotion. Network TV deal, high-profile owner, sufficiently large markets with no NFL or MLB franchises.
That QB who got planted in the last video, Chuck Clements use to be my neighbor when I lived in Huntsville, Tx as a kid...ouch...Both him and his older brother, Steve were big time high school prospects, but didn't do anything really significant for football after college. . .
I doubt it, they dropped that stuff towards the end and nobody cared as the actual product was what it was: minor league football.
That is literally all I remember about the XFL.....the stupid nicknames the players were allowed to have on their jerseys.
This league was a ton of fun to watch in its first couple of weeks. Then, once I (and everyone else) realized that it was just crappy football, I quit watching. I'm not business expert, but their model didn't seem very sound. The league was too big in terms of the number of franchises, their marketing seemed way too aggressive, and in turn, expensive, and a lot of the things they used to market themselves turned out to be inaccurate. For example, they seem to at least insinuate that their brand would be football without a lot of penalty flags. What happened on their first play? A penalty flag was thrown, that's what.
I remember playing XFL fantasy football with my friends. Man the guy who had Tommy Maddox went undefeated because the rest of the league just sucked and you didn't know who would do anything. He still prides himself as having the only undefeated season in XFL Fantasy history...of course since no one got a chance to dethrone him lol
I remember WrestleMania Axxess had this XFL exhibit. It was pretty cool. We ran through some drills. It was
No way. That's the only reason why I watched the first game until I realized about half way through it these were bad football players.
Only things I remember about the XFL were the slutty cheerleaders, the microphones that allowed us to hear all the hits, and Vince McMahon's "THIS IS THE XFL!!!!"
I was working weekly with Drew Pearson at the time (Former Cowboys Reciever/GM of the XFL's New Jersey Hitmen) so I was hoping that it would do well, but I was also thinking that if nothing else..it will change the way the NFL broadcasts its games. I was thinking that they'd take some of the great ideas like Steadicams on the fields and in the huddles, Mics in the huddles, all the great stuff that made the XFL broadcasts more interesting..Unfortunately like most pro leagues, the NFL thinks they don't need any improvement. I'd still love to see the NFL use some of the flair the XFL had on the technical side of the broadcasts.
