I was giving a couple of high school(Skyline) kids a ride back down the canyon yesterday, and they kept referring to all of the cool things as being "tight". Now, I've heard this word alot in the past year to 18 mos... and I just have to say that it's funny to talk to a kid that's about to go on a mission for his church and have him describe something that he likes as being "tight". Sorry if I'm a perve... but what non sexual things would start a fad in which something "cool" is called "tight". ------------------ git it tag, git it!
Stop being a perve. Lots of things are tight. A good band plays their music tight, meaning they sound good together. Tight can mean firm or strong, thus a tight move in basketball would be a strong move. Good friends are tight, or very close. Or maybe you are just a perve. ------------------ Behad Sergeant at Arms of the Clutch BBS
Word* Nice call Heb, you are a Wicked poster, what you contribute to this Phat BBS always has been and always will be Wack. ------------------ "Repression never did me any harm (I finally ceased to include "stop masturbating" as one of my guilt ridden New Year's resolutions, but that's a different topic)." I guess you're right Behad (my wife agrees)... It's just hard(get it, hard) to think of a rock band as being tight, or a jump being tight. Well, it's easy to think of a chute being tight, or the run to a jump as being tight but not ttiiiiiiigggght. But thanks dude, your post is tight bro. ------------------ git it tag, git it!
Guess I'll have to let your ol' geezers in on some new slang: Word - true True - true Holla - call me back....loose translated Tight - cool Crunk - cool Sick - nice, good looking (when referring to materials) ill - nice, see above anything with -eezy, would also do. For example: Fa' (for) sheezy (sure) off da (the) heezy nephew - friend playboi - friend If I think of anymore, I'll let ya'll in on it. ------------------ Charles Barkley on TBS on the "fat track" poll: "What? 47% said I'd gain more.....why those.....they better be glad this is a family show." I wonder what Achebe would've said if they mentioned the word "chickenhead". LOL! Achebe probably understands skrilla though. ------------------ "I was arrested for sexual assault involving an elderly man and I was out in 35 minutes." -- Achebe - programmer by day, geriatric ass grabber by night. Speaking as a musician, I can indeed tell you that "tight" is used often in musical vernacular and has been since the early R&B days of the 60's. It originally referred to how rhythmically connected the rhythm section (usally guitar, bass and drums) was. If a band was tight, they were well-rehearsed and played together comfortably. It especially applies to funk, R&B and soul grooves because the style requires a close relationship between members of the rhythm section and the bass guitar and bass drum in particular. ------------------ Squirrels is all I eat!
Hey Achy. On a completely different topic… The Vancouverites have finally loosened up on the info about good restaurants … and other places. I remember you asking about this on Grizzball.com a while back, but they hadn't quite figured out how to respond yet. http://grizzball.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001294.html Oh yeah. Your site is tight guys, real tight! ------------------
Jeff, I knew (yet overlooked) that "tight" was used to describe when a band worked well together (I had to listen to my roommate's Indie/Emo crap all through school ). Earlier I misused the term "rock band" to refer to a formation of rocks to jump off of on a board or skis. I was primarily having trouble dealing w/ the new slang (and showing my age ). When I'm hanging out in the midst of Evergreens and Aspens feeling at peace, I get taken aback when a kid in a doo rag and his pants falling off rides up yelling "oh yeah, this is tight brah!". ------------------ git it tag, git it!
Thanks grizzled! I haven't visited you guys site in a while, I need to ask you guys a question about (not Crystal... but some other resort... also starts w/ 'C'... oh yeah Cypress). ------------------ git it tag, git it!
