$2.20 for Super? I drive a 6 liter GMC Sierra and get 11 MPG in th city. This is pathetic. I am seriously looking to trade it in for better fuel economy. Not sure what to get yet. Maybe a sporty convertable, but not too expensive. Is anybody else sick of this and have taken matters in their own hands?
This thread is very entertaining Anyways, if the gas price keeps going up, I'm going to really consider about hybrid when it's time for me to buy a new car.
My wife thinks it's funny that I would be going from a big truck to a little car. I'm just stubborn and pissed about this whole gas thing. I looked at the hybrids and they have excellent economy but in Houston, if you don't have power to move on the freeway you will get run over.
Besides the fact that the initial overhead is much steeper if you're buying a V6 Honda Accord Hybrid as opposed to the basic model, I read recently that they (not just Hondas...hybrids in general) have an internal battery where it stores the electricity generated from the transmission thingy to be used when it needs it. The thing with those is you allegedly have to have it replaced every 3 or so years and that costs generally 5+ thousand dollars.
if this was the late 70s we would be paying the equivalent of 6 dollars per gallon. 2 bucks doesn't look so bad now.
I wasn't old enough to drive back in the 70's and I'm sure it sucked then, but it's 2005 and it's sucks now.
i'm so glad i dumped my V8 Mercury Mountaineer for my Volkswagen Jetta. The Jetta doesn't get super gas milage, but it sure as hell beats the 10-12 MPG i would get driving back and forth to campus!
Not to turn this into a D&D topic, but if everyone got hybrids it wouldn't solve anything in the long run. Less fuel would be needed, so the prices would skyrocket even more so we'd have to pay a ton even though we're filling up less often.
The last time gas got over $2 a gallon, I used it as an excuse to get a motorcycle. It was just a convenient excuse, but I get over 50 mpg and it is way faster than my car.
