Yeah, I usually consider myself at least up-to-date on the hot prospects and stuff, but this guy floated under my radar. He came over in the Beckett deal, along with Hanley Ramirez, who made some nice plays to preserve the no-hitter.
he is the #3 overall prospect or pitching prospect (i got it mixed up) in the marlins organization. got him on my NL only 13 team 23 man roster league along with olsen
I think Byrnes I think it was...not sure, on the last out was safe at first. didnt expect the ump to give it to him though.
Just confirms my initial thoughts about the Beckett trade. The guy has good stuff but just can't put it together. And you end up trading him for an above-average shortstop and what is turning out to be a pretty good if not better starting pitcher than Beckett.
That SS took his time for the last out. It was real close and I wouldve been pissed if he was safe. Nonetheless, great pitching performance by the rookie!
i have no idea who this guy is but i remember the last rookie pitcher who threw a no-hitter, bud smith from st'louis. he really panned out.
I swear, the Florida Marlins are blessed by some kind of deity. Management keeps trying to run that team into the ground, yet they keep coming back. I wouldn't be suprised if they won the wildcard by one game and got another World Series title...
Pretty amazing...Not a perfect game, but a no-no is a no-no... This, on top of having the lowest team salary in baseball is amazing and they're still in the hunt for the playoffs...The amazing Marlins...The sad thing is that only 6000 fans were there to witness it... Go Stros!!!
My neighbor a die-hard DBacks fan swears the home plate umpire was giving the young pitcher a strike zone a mile wide. Probably sour grapes on my neighbor's part.
poor jim rome, he was just trying to make a case yesterday saying that there were no no-hitters because of steroid testing. just yesterday, perfect timing to put your foot in your mouth.
