I know a lot of people want to blame les for being cheap and I have some issues with him, but the guy responsible for roster balance is Moneyball. He know les isn't going to pay the lt unless they can get a great player. The rox can't get one but they do need a decent player. Not getting yao a backup is a crime. Even during the ring yrs, we had otis, cureton, jones, tabak and even riley. To think yao will never get into foul trouble or miss a game or two is even crazier. We have francis collecting a check, head who won't play unless there is a couple injuries and dorsey who is supposed to be nba ready can't even get on the court.

I truly believe if yao had a legit backup for 17 mins, he would be even better. He would be fresher, more aggressive and the coach would have a piece of mind. Its just mind boggling the rox management can be so slow to make such a important decision.

McGrady was here before Morey got here, so not much he really could do about it.

If Deke isn't available, Luther for Sean Williams. I don't care if he supposedly sucks, he'll only have to play 10-15 mpg at the most. He's an athletic big body (a legit 6'10 with the long arms) who can block shots, finish strong, and get you rebounds. Plus, he's a hometown guy so maybe a change of scenery is good for him. Currently, he's on the inactive list for NJ. I agree with leebigez, it's a crime that Yao doesn't have an adequate backup.

Man don't you people see there are no legit backups that we can sign now and if we want to get a good one we have to give away pieces, no team is going to trade away someone for a bag of chips

IDK if your being sarcastic or not but do you think if that trade didn't happen we would have the roster we have today?? Will Francis still be playing???

Well if Deke is gone, there's no use in dwelling, we gotta move on. I'll wait for official confirmation to change my signature though. Apparently, Williams is in the doghouse in NJ and has 2 more guaranteed years left on his contract. Luther only has one. So I don't see why not.

Plenty of time until trade deadline. Way too early for a freak out thread about roster balance. The Rockets are 19-10. The lack of a backup C may have hurt them, but they are doing well enough to take their time addressing it rather than make a rash decision. Morey has show he's aware of what's going on. He'll get it done.

People were complaining and complaining and complaining from May to July about how Morey didn't make a move yet... and then about him sounding satisfied to wait until trade deadline... and then about him being happy to just have Brent Barry.

And then the Ron Artest trade happened.

Morey knows what the team needs. He just isn't publicly whining about it like some people are.

You are complaining because we have a few guys on the squad who don't play much, and makes somewhere between $500K to $2.6 million per year. Apparently, this is crazy. The truth is that there are a ton of teams with guys who are not really in the rotation making even more money than this.

Hell, Francis is the biggest salary cap waster on the team right now... and the Blazers are paying him much more than the Rockets are.

If cd didn't make that trade, this wouldn't even be a playoff team. Point being, they don't need a superstar backup for yao, but they do need a guy. I b****ed about it last yr, this offseason and now. It just doesn't add up. That 3rd qt killed the rox on the rebounds.

CH- what was so food about the barry signing? Why wait for the trade deadline? Elson,Williams, and probably Mihm could help yao now. I know when yao started limping, everyone was concerned big time.

What is with these stupid knee jerk threads? The Rockets are 19-10 and have played a huge number of road games and back to backs while working through injuries to most of their top players.

NO ONE should be questioning management. They have done a GREAT job, especially Morey. Getting Scola, Landry, Brooks were great deals. We have a team that can be a championship contender. The only thing is health. Cavs are a top 4 team and look at the result tonight. The Rockets stayed in the game for the most part with Yao being taken out by the refs, and McGrady not anywhere close to himself. The team and talent is there. Its all up to the players now to show it. If Tmac is injured, its his problem, not management's. We just need HEALTH! Been said many times but its the obvious solution.

How is this a stupid knee jerk thread? We've been talking about a backup C since the beginning of the season. This game just reaffirmed that and showed how important it is to acquire a legit big man to backup Yao.

Its not knee jerk and this team can't beat la with hayes, landry or scola playing backup center. They play laker and yoa gets in foul trouble, game over. They're already longer than the rox, u take yao out the picture and you're talking mcgrady being you're tallest player.

Man, I would LOVE to have Mihm on this team....talk about a guy tailor made for the Adelman high post offense.

What would it take to get him, I would think we could give them Luther now, they need a backup PG with Farmer out and Luther is expiring.

Francis money is 2.6 and mihm is 2.5, I'd throw head in to make it a go. Its not that hard.

I wanted them to go after Mihm in the offseason, he is behind Gasol and Bynum, and won't even see the court.

I think he could have opted out, but I believe he is gravy training hoping to get a ring.

It's POSSIBLE that they might actually bite at the Head/ Mihm trade. Mihm hardly plays for the Lakers but is a good rebounder and shot blocker. Head hardly plays for the Rockets but is a good 3pt shooter.

Talk about both teams filling needs in one trade.

And then come the playoffs we just have to hope the Lakers draw the Jazz first up and Luther meets his nemesis YET AGAIN!!!!
