Just proves what a partisan ****ing charade these confirmation hearings are. The party affiliated with the judge lobs up some slow pitch softballs while the other party throws 3 sinkers in the dirt in a pitiful attempt to get a swing.
I read in an GQ interview with Glenn Beck that Beck wants to do comedy and admires the charisma of Jon Stewart. How he can get laughs even during awkward pauses. Props to him for acknowledging how bad Stewart has pwned him over the years. I love Stewarts' opening segments. The middle segments involving the correspondents are usually hit or miss.
I think it's safe to say that people that look to Jon Stewart for political insight are just not ready to dig into issues and understand them. His act is candy for small brains. And people aren't laughing at him -- that's what's called a 'laugh track' which is simply a sound effect. Good grief.
The funny thing is that the media/politicians are really the only ones paying a lot of attention to these confirmation hearings - to the rest of us they don't matter, they're farcical. Soto was on the fast track from the get go, and all the hemming and hawing from the right was a bunch (dwindling) base-appeasing shenanigans so that idiots like basso/tj etc can make hay on the interwebs and the wingnut talkshow brigade will have content to fill airwaves. Given that most of the country is not that base - nobody cares.
Sam, her views simply aren't mainstream. She has a history of very questionable decision making (activism, not interpretation...), overt racism, and in general just a lack of intelligence. The country's value system remains center-right. You know that. The stock market crash in the Fall ushered in the democrats -- their policy positions did not. McCain was leading before the crash -- yes, a 72 year old representing the same party of a highly unpopular President was winning. The fortuitous timing of the economic collapse got the libs in (well, that and millions of uninformed, emotional voters) -- not their policy views. All of this is supported by the dwindling approval numbers for Obama. Once his liberal views and efforts have been uncovered (behind his misleading and deceptive verbal tricks on America), Americans are waking up to the utter lapse in judgment they experienced in November.
How is that any different than myself (and many others) looking to the D & D for comedy in your (and Basso's) posts? I'll be the first to admit that I don't get too worked up over political issues. But I read this forum every day because you make me laugh.
LOL Ignoring the big ass screw up of the past eight years of policy, americans wouldn't have voted for obama.
Republican Senator from Texas John Cornyn: Thank you for that -- for your answer, Judge. You know, I actually agree that your judicial record strikes me as pretty much in the mainstream of -- of judicial decision making by district court judges and by court of appeals judges on the federal bench. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/16/AR2009071601817.html What does Obama have on Cornyn? How did he turn him into a libpig? It's the Chicago way.
I don't believe anyone looks to Stewart for "political insight," rather an honest and to the point appraisal of the stupid crap that the MSM seems to ignore. I didn't see ANY other news organization mention Graham's "anonymous lawyers" information either to support him for bringing up the issue or to attack him for bringing up anonymous insults. His "act" is closer to journalism than I have seen out of Fox or MSNBC in a long time. Live studio audience, moron. I don't doubt that they have people whipping up the crowd and prompting various reactions, including laughter, but TDS does not use a "laugh track."
It really isn't very hard to make fun of how stupid politics are. I'll watch Stewart or Colbert for the humor. They have good writers.
Yes, actually it does, to supplement the live audience. In all honestly, the audience of clowns and pot smokers that make up the Daily Show's live audience is the equivalent of a laugh track.
GOP Senator Cornyn disagrees with your idiotic appraisal, as noted above. Franken should have included you in his book, "Lies and the Lying Liars who Tell Them." The country consistently polls as supporting just about every progressive position there is, from national healthcare to welfare to abortion. You know that. This argument might have held some water in 2005, before the Democrats started pwning the GOP two years before the crash, you know, in 2006. Ever hear about the convention bump? You just can't stand it that Americans started to see through the lies that the GOP has been spouting. Approval rating all the way down to 57%, oh no! As usual, your invective is a collection of lies, distortions, and fabrications. Now, run away and let the adults have a conversation.
In all honestly [SIC], the only "clown" here is you. Your disparaging remarks, vitriolic comments, and blind partisanship are evident to everyone. You don't have the capacity for rational thought, the ability to comprehend the written word, or the intelligence that God gave my cat. At least he knows when he is overmatched, outwitted, and owned.
moon, is that string of barely coherent opinions intended to be a rebuttal? I should not even dignify it with a response.
You can't respond. You don't have the ability to have a rational debate. You are a sad, sorry, shell of a man. I pity you.
