This post is a little self indulgent so forgive me in advance. Early last year I was at a crossroad in my career, I LOVE doing what I do but wondered if there was something else out there for me; you know, 40 year old man stuff (remember Max?). After I totally rocked my Last Comic Standing audition (partial standing ovation) and after I didn't get picked I went into a 'woe is me' period, second-guessing my act and directing a lot of energy toward the negative instead of positive. What a difference a year makes. I started writing new abstract material like, "I'm adopted and I don't know who my biological mother is, that's why I don't date older women..." and "I was smoking a cigarette with a burn victim and I figure if he don't quit...then why the f*** should I!" and found a little niche that I am comfortable with, and that my fans seem to embrace. Fatty's post about losing his class ring in a strip bar birth a bit that I am really proud of and HOPEFULLY you'll all see it on TV in the near future...Thanks Fatty I owe you lunch and if all goes well a check...seriously! Anyway I'm on to some pretty special stuff right now and hopefully something pans out. (Now for the self indulgent part) - I just got a call-back to be a recurring character on a new drama on FOX. This is the biggest long shot of the things going on but it feels good just to be in the game. -My comedy tour (www.myspace.com/blackpack) has just been offered a spot at the Comedy Central workspace and that's where all the comedy central shows are tested before they are actually put on air. -I am a contributing writer on a new Telepictures talk show pilot, if the show gets picked up I'll be a staff writer. -Last Comic is back and even though I don't want to do it, Bill Belamy, a friend of mine is the host and he guarantees me the judging will be more fair and comic friendly...as opposed to the management driven monster that it has become. I'm going for it! If all fails I have a new act that I am developing and am really excited about. And because of my angst last year I'm presently getting my real estate license just in case. Just thought I'd share and thx again FATTY!
AB, you sure you don't want to edit your post? "Carlos Mencia" might be reading... Seriously, that's good stuff. Let us know how it all turns out.
Scrubs did a joke similar to that, except JD was afraid to let his potential child be given up for adoption because he didnt want to end up meeting her in a bar sometime in the future.
That's some funny ****, AB!!! You're on your way!!! In all seriousness, I wish you the best. When I can work up the nerve to ask someone out (hopefully soon), I'll come see ya. Single guys are targets for you guys and with my history, I have a ton of material for you. If you make it bigtime before that happens, I wish you the best. You're a good person and you deserve it.
You don't have to brag about it, dude. Who is the host of the talk show? Congratulations on three of the four things you mentioned.
Here are some of my horrible jokes. My dream is to be a writer for Bazooka Joe. Did you hear about the strand of hair that got sent to the hospital? He had a brush with death and ended up in a comba. Why did the garden plant get a cell phone? It wanted to cauliflower. Why are toasters so rebellious? Because they are part of a counter culture. What did Boba Fett get Jango Fett for Father's Day? Some colone. (SW fans only) Where alien ants come from? Picnic Area 51 What did King Tut say to Woody Allen? "Mia Farrow"
sounds like some good stuff brewin' there, AB! the best of luck to ya! i hope to see you on TV (or elsewhere) soon. cheers!
Good stuff, you should really try this on an open mic. Bring the jokes right up on stage with you and read them...trust me on this!
AB - when I saw you in the mid '90s I thought you had the talent to make a definite move. I was surprised when that big thing didn't happen within the next few years. Now that you have been on the BBS and I have met you I definitely pull for you all the more. Point is you are a talented guy that deserves more attention so I am glad your "dark period" is over and I sincerely hope these new things bring you further success.
AB, I'm really happy for you! When a man is trying to figure out how he wants to spend his day -- and he puts every ounce of his being into trying to attain it -- one can't help but absolutely respect and appreciate that. Now if you ever need representation...I'm just sayin'....
One for the CF.net NYC residents. Two peanuts were walking through Central Park and one was assaulted Thank You.. Thank You.. I'm here all week. Try the Salsbury steak. I hear its made with whats left of Sean Salsbury's career... AB, best of luck on all your success and if your tour happens to come to the Minneapolis St. Paul I will plan on coming and seeing it.
what rimbaud said, and, can someone explain this to me what Another Brother said "Fatty's post about losing his class ring in a strip bar birth a bit that I am really proud of" i'm not following...didn't see the Fatty post...is there a typo in there. btw: The "that's why I don't date older women" one made me laugh, and it is hard to laugh at material that you are reading. I'm trying to imagine the material you use to segue into that and out of it. It just reminds me how women seem perfectly fine dating in a much wider age range than men....and to come to think of it...dogs date in wider age ranges than me, too.
