For saving the Rockets from an extended period of mediocrity. Now time to trade Martin/Scola for youth/draft picks and... What should have been the plan all along.
Thank god somebody else on clutch fans knows the truth. This draft coming up is one of the best in recent memory. I would have everybody on the roster up for trade. Instead of putting a big package together for players we need to put a package together for a top 5 pick next year
I'm not glad the deal didn't work out... but I am glad that we pretty much have an answer one way or the other. I don't see any way the Rockets can keep Kevin Martin though. He seems pretty unhappy. Time to unload him somewhere else.
Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't it be easier to move an all-star and 2-time champion PF/C than two non-stars who play no defense? If the Rockets need to tank, Gasol would be much easier to move. For example, imagine trading Gasol to NJ for Lopez so they can set up a Nene/Gasol/DWill trio.
I agree with we should tank, but Les Alexander won't let the team tank. That trade was the best alternative, along with a move for Nene. Am I the only one that remembers Morey saying something along these lines?
some of you guys are so delusional. the time it takes to develop a team from draft picks alone is reason enough not to want to tank. We could've brought in a superstar PF that could have been flipped by the deadline to a contending team that needed to get over the hump like Boston, Chicago, Thunder, or something. We finally could have had a legitimate TRADE ASSET. We haven't had a player of Pau Gasol's reputation and skill in years. It doesn't matter if he isn't as efficient as Kevin Martin or if he is too old...he is an asset that could have been flipped for something golden..and we missed out on that.
Les is not going to tell McHale that our goal is NOW to tank. Sorry, not happening. So we wind up the 9th or 10th seed again. But it's cool 'cause we've got Martin/Scola/Dragic/pick that we obviously should not have traded...
The NBA is littered with busts taken with top-5 picks. With Pau and Nene we would have had a team that could play .600 ball or better, with room to add a Gerald Wallace or Andre Iguodala in the next few years. And we could always tank after that if it didn't work out. That's what you guys don't get. WE CAN ALWAYS TANK. But right now we had a chance to make a big move. Now that opportunity is gone.
I love both Martin and Scola. Sad if they end up out the door, sad if Morey ends up out the door, sad no matter what happens pretty much. I was against this trade from the start and I'm an "In Morey I Trust" kind of guy, but this whole ordeal make ***** us so bad.
But but but... Scola and Martin combine for like 40. If we don't get back someone who at least scores 30ppg, then obviously we'd have gotten screwed. /clutchfans logic.
Can't believe some would rather tank...smh. I didn't wait for the season to finally start to watch foxx team lose a whole bunch of games.
We pulled out of the deal just as much as the Lakers did. Now we are going to trade Scola/Martin straight up for Pau in a Orlando/LA/Houston 3 way...
The thing is that we still would have had the resources to potentially make a splash in the draft next summer (as in trading up). We could have had Gasol, Nene, Chuck, and a potentially a top ten guy in the draft with what we still had in our toolkit. So stop thanking David Stern. That man is everything that is wrong with the NBA.
