I seem him at UConn running the floor with huge galloping strides of a big man and throwing down. Now he so up and down the practice court like he's got a corn cob stuck up his ... and striding like an old lady walking the mall with a thorn stuck in her foot. What has happened to his running ability? Has he injured something?
I never saw him in college, but I have seen posters here say Thabeet “runs like a gazelle” and wondered what the hell they were smoking while watching these videos of him plodding up and down the court. I don’t think he is injured, just poorly conditioned and lazy.
That excuse don't hold water. Everybody else on the team is going through the same practice, even Pudge Lowry who is probably at 14% body fat and they're all still hustling. 5 days of video and the only positive play was a rebound that bounced around and fell in his hands and he couldn't blast it down against a bean pole (Hill) that he has 5 inches and about 60 pounds on??? No reports of a single dunk or outstanding play besides him chucking chucking up a three after practice and hitting it. But plenty of video of him meandering up the court like a big giraffe looking for a leaf to chew on top of one of the other player's heads. I see ZERO competitive fire in him, NONE! And at least he had some fire at UConn and at least he would actually run up and down the court.
I agree completely. I think he just needs his groove back and I think some playing time will give it to him. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xESyqzS4Qd4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I wonder how that dream shake is coming along.
Guy needs to work on his rebounding. Nothing more annoying then to see a ball go over a 7'3 center and him just looking at it...
I can't recall Yao busting his ass running up the court during practice...... Some guys are not fast runners, they are just BIG ! DD
What does his body fat percentage have to do with his speed, stamina, and agility? He definitely takes care of his body, but it doesn’t mean he works on being in good GAME shape. He’s just unmotivated and doesn’t care about basketball. His loves are soccer and shopping.
While this might be true, I don't see a connection with running style. I didn't watch every Uconn game when Hasheem was there, but caught them on ESPN, etc. multiple times, and I don't recall him being a "better" runner. To me, his issue isn't predominantly passion, motivation or even skillset. Sure, it would help if he had a lot more of those things. But the biggest issue is his athleticism.... which is great for a guy his size, but hampers him playing at the professional level that is the NBA. Most super tall NBA'ers historically have had this problem. Manute, Bradley, Yao to a large extent. I have not seen him play enough at the professional level to say where he will top out, but I have very little confidence he will ever become a meaningful player, or legitimate starter. So little confidence that I started a thread and lost a self-bet that DM wouldn't be dumb enough to trade for him last year - mediocre player plus bad contract (for current production). I still can't figure out why he did it, as opposed to just letting Shane walk...? I guess we got a pick, too.
If this guy was never drafted second overall... There wouldn't be an infatuation/love affair with this guy like everyone does when they defend him. He's terrible, he will never amount to anything, his value only is his expiring contract. The sole reason there is any talk of this guy is because of where he was drafted, and that was obviously a stretch. Just like everything else, busts happen. Get over it people.
i think he's just tired....probably doing more post work than he's ever done before...dont really see much of a difference between now and in college.
