So when did I get too old or too cheap to miss the transition into text messages? These buggers cost $0.15 a pop, and I can't even reject them. What's the fascination? And why don't they just call me?
Text messaging is very r****ded. But I favor it over listening to my 18 year old sister talk my ear off for 3 hours about her latest hallucinogenic experience.
Most people who use it more often get text messaging put into their monthly plan. Seems to be popular amongst the younger crowd. I use it (I'm 23), and speaking personally, it's a good tool to hook up with chicks. If it wasn't good for that, I probably wouldn't really use it.
get unlimited txt messages on your plan!!! talking on the phone is only needed when a discussion needs to take place, otherwise its awkward if i have some quick point, question, or joke, txt all the way
If I want to meet up with someone, I'd text to tell them when, where etc. Little things like that. I NEVER use texting for conversation(back and forth texting like some people do) that's just silly.
tell multiple people the same thing or ask them all the same question without having to call each one. Especially if the response isn't too time-sensitive (i.e. you can wait 5 mins or more for it). Also I've gotten directions to somewhere so that they're stored.. don't have paper and pen handy, that's saved to memory as opposed to my brain if I had a phone convo, which has been known to fail on occasion.
for me its good to use since I work in a call center, its very rare i can take calls, so I just text. Thank god for the unlimited txt msgs for my employee plan
Id rather just text than ever talk to anyone, especially the conversationalists. Its a great way to put your foot in the door without having to call with a gameplan (Co-stan-za). Ill stop texting when I am married.
text messaging is the devil! We must learn from the NCAA and ban it. Actually, my plan does not charge me for just receiving a text... so I don't mind getting them.
Phone conversations take at least 2-5 minutes. txt messages take 10-15 seconds. If all you need to do is convey a small peice of info (like I'll be there in 10 minutes), why waste 2-5 minutes exchanging all the usual conversational etiqutte crap?
I usually hate talking on the phone; I'd rather do it in person if possible. Texting cuts out all the BS smalltalk and gets to the point (at least when I do it). I text my wife stuff like what I need at the grocery store or that I will be home shortly. No need to actually talk. She takes classes at night and we may send little messages to each other. I could do without them, but it makes her happy. I will occasionally get texts from friends, which is ok. I don't mind them once in a while. Getting texts about how badass the Rockets are is always welcome, too.
I generally hate any sort of phone communication. Reason is I cannot for the life of me remember what the person has said. I just tend to space out in any phone conversation. It ends up just being a waste of time for me. I like text messaging, instant messaging and such b/c I can always read back what was written later on. I'm a much more visual, than auditory person. Even things like sitting in audience for a public lecture is bad, as I lose attention after about 5 minutes.
I understand why people like text. But I just wish the greedy service providers can lower the price. It takes much less bandwidth to text than talk, so why does it cost more? And like Azadre said, there's no way for you to reject a text. I don't want to pay 15 cents to read some stupid joke!
You know you can send text messages to phones from services like Yahoo for free. You can even receive the messages back on your Yahoo account as well for most major carriers. That way if you are sitting at home and someone texts you- you can just text them back online. http://sites.mobile.yahoo.com/sms/sendsms
