Well, the reason Chris Simms had a bad game against OU last year was that we didn't play Cedric, and went 5 wide receiver almost every down (last three quarters). There's not a quarterback in the country that could've succeeded in that game plan... OU's defense is just too good to play one-dimensional against.
Please. What's his excuse for the Colorado game? Chris Simms plus no Major Applewhite to bail him out. You guys are screwed.
Bad game. Man, Brett Favre threw six INT's in the playoffs against the Rams, that guy must be complete garbage. Also, my guess is that there will be a lot less pressure on Chris this year, now that 75% of the crowd won't be screaming for Major "I lose to a lesser school every year" Applewhite whenever Simms does anything less than perfect. Texas by 10+... Simms throws for 250 yards, 0 INT. Book it. If you want to make a bet on it, I'm certainly willing to do that too.
Also: Don't EVEN compare Simms to a top NFL QB. Simms continues to screw up the big games, that was ONE game for Favre.
And that was ONE game for Simms. What other big games has he "screwed up"? Like I said, if you could show me one other college QB last year who could've succeeded against a great defense with no running game whatsoever, I'd sure like to know who. He played fine at A&M. The year before, he played an exceptional game against A&M, and a pretty solid game against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl. Spare me the touchdowns and interceptions ratio. Two of the interceptions were off hail mary's, and three of his receivers dropped wide open touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. He played a great game against CU in October.
What's the all time series standing? That's just as relevant as the 63-14 game, considering there's almost no starters left from that game.
63-14....... Simms didn't really play in this game all that much, and when he did, the score was already out of hand. That was an actually an Applewhite game. Simms, though, vs top-10 competition (4 games I think) is at 160 yards per game, 0 TD's, 12 INT's. That's the stat you'll want to refer to and the one we will hear mentioned 8,000 times leading up to the OU game.
Cedric will get lost on the way to the stadium because he'll miss the team bus hanging in his hotel room burning blunts.
Terrific post. The Cat, you should probably read this post over and over again, then you will be convinced the Simms is a flamer. Then again, Cat, you are blind, and will most likely continue defending this overrated QB. This is why you constantly get into arguments with other posters. Then again. Simms can change my opinion of him if he shows up in big games this year.
First, it's 10 INT's, unless you're counting the 63-14 game, which isn't exactly fair considering Simms played part time and came in down 28-0. And the yardage is skewed by the CU game in which he only played one and a half quarters. And, you totally ignore how those numbers come about. Two of the INT's against Oregon were on Hail Mary's. One of the INT's against OU was on a desperation "hail mary" type throw, and another on the missed block in the end zone. Three receivers dropped touchdowns on Simms in the Holiday Bowl. He's not overrated; if anything, he's underrated because everyone points to those numbers without understanding how they came to be. The CU game was a meltdown, but it happened to everyone. Hell, Major threw 3 picks in the first half of the Holiday Bowl. Brett Favre threw 6 picks in the playoffs against the Rams. If you take away the meltdown game, which is unlikely to happen again, Simms has has 3 legit interceptions in two games against top 10 teams. That's not good, but it's not terrible either. What's funny, though, is that most people I talked to around UT were happy with Simms' performance after the 2000 Holiday Bowl. Most people understood the circumstances the INT's came around, and felt Chris did a good job. It wasn't until after the CU meltdown that everyone decided to throw logic out the window and change their opinions to make a case that Simms always and forever will suck. Look, Simms had one bad game. But, he's not the first athlete to ever have this happen to him. His other games against top 10 teams were decent, and if you count the CU game from October (spare me the fact that they were ranked 14th, they were a top 10 quality team at the time), he's had an excellent game against a quality opponent. A&M is always a tough opponent for the Horns also, regardless of record. All I'm saying is that Simms has a chance this year.
