i didn't think about that. for the first time ever, just being alive without making money, buying something, driving a car or owning property will cost you. Weird.

the situation described is an indigent person. aren't these people covered by medicaid. if they are covered by medicaid why would they be subject to the penalty. maybe I don't understand the bill, or medicaid

The alternative would be to refuse treatment if payment was not there (insurance or up front). Would that be better?

No it won't. People with no income (or a very small income) are exempt from the requirement to buy health insurance.

I thought Republicans were against frivolous law suits.

Why tie up the courts with this kind of garbage? It serves no one.

I think you are missing the point. You pay income tax because you make money. You pay a tax on gas to maintain streets etc. You pay property tax for schools, police fire departments to serve you land.

this is basically the first tax you pay for being alive.

I wonder if the Justices have forgotten that the President called them out during the State of the Union address? ;)

Nonsense. You pay property tax for schools. You pay this tax for healthcare.
