These aren't the longhorns or aggies, but the texas state bobcats have a chance to go to the 1-AA playoffs in football. Will anyone be making the trip to huntsville?

I believe if (when) Sam Houston wins, we win the Southland, right? I was sorry to see our streak broken last week, but you can't win 'em all. Hopefully the Kats will be nice and salty coming off only their 2nd loss of the season last week. We got knocked from #3 to #10 in the I-AA polls.

I really wanted to go to a game this year, but I keep having a gig every time they play at home. Maybe I can catch a playoff game....or two...or three. ;)

    Should be an interesting game.

An SHSU win over Texas State coupled with an SFA win over Northwestern State means that SHSU wins the Southland.

SHSU Win + NW LOSS = SHSU wins title
SHSU Win + NW Win = Share title
SHSU Loss + NW Win = NW Title
SHSU Loss + NW Loss = Share

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but.....GO SFA!

    Blech. I feel dirty now...

So what happens if we share the title? Do both teams get a playoff berth? I know the 'at large' teams will be announced on Sunday.

Does the Southland Conference champ automatically receive a playoff berth? How many at large teams are there?

Yes. There are 8 automatic berths (via conference championships) and 8 at large berths.

It would seem that if we win, we're in no matter what happens with the other game. Surely we can at least get an at large berth even if we share the championship.

See how easy it is to set up a college football playoff system? The BCS is such a stupid way to decide a championship.

Sam Houston State shares the Southland Conference title. Biggest turnaround in college football this season. 2-9 in 2003. 9-2 in 2004.

I think NW Louisana gets the automatic berth because they beat us head to head, but it's hard to imagine that we wouldn't get an at large berth. We were ranked #10 before this weeks game, so maybe we'll move up. They should announce it sometime today. Hopefully, we'll get a home game and I can make the roadie to Huntsville.
