Hey guys my brother lives in Killeen and is looking for some career guidance to move him away from the military. He recently told me he was looking into enrolling at Texas State Technical College. I cant find much info on this place even in the website and I called to get info but was told to call back. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. If so is it more like Houston Community College? Or is it more like ITT tech? I don't want him to get screwed at ITT tech type company but also he is in his 30s and not sure if he wants to get a full four year education or if it will just benefit him to go to a trade school and get a job. I just want to make sure he knows what he is getting into. So if it is a trade school Ill let him know but I am hoping that the credits can transfer. If anyone has any info or any advice please feel free to respond. He has very little experience in everything else and he has been in the military for a while.
It sounds like it's a publicly funded state school which would make it more like a community college and not a private, for-profit college like ITT, DeVry, Art Institute, etc. The proof will come from how much their tuition is. If it's unreasonably high, it's a scam.
It's def a state funded two year tech school. It looks like they have a Electric Utility Construction & Maintenance program. That could help him secure a job as a lineman with a utility company. Easily $100k a year if a company like Centerpoint picks him up. Just encourage him to not let too much time pass between his discharge and his next gig. Be it school or a job.
I know their Auto Tech instructor there. If your brother is interested in that field, I might be able to put him in touch with my contact so he can get more information.
Sorry I lost this thread somewhere along the line. wreck2k9@yahoo.com IF you have any info i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks he was looking more towards IT but I dont think he has anything solid yet. I dont think IT is for him. Maybe Auto tech would be better for him.
Tuition from what he mentioned seemed pretty high to me. 4 grand a semester or something like that. But people here state it is legit. I guess ITT tech would be far more expensive.
