Not really a D&D topic, but I figured someone in here would know. What are the rules here to vote, as in registration, etc. My girl just got her citizenship and would like to vote, but she heard you have to be registered 30 days prior. Is this accurate? TIA
Another question - am I correct in understanding that you don't have to have your voter registration card in order to vote (provided you go to the right precinct and have valid ID with you)?
Yes, this is true in Harris County...at least in early voting. They wanted to see driver's licenses from everyone...with or without voter card.
That's right. My wife just voted with a DL and no registration card. I think she had to sign a statement too.
I would go to the Secretary of State's Website, look yourself up and print out the precinct information and take it with you along with your driver's license. https://voterinfo.sos.state.tx.us/voterws/viw/faces/SearchSelectionVoter.jsp
Interesting. I just followed a link from the election thread in the hangout that shows where your designated polling place is. I know where I always go, but I wasn't sure what the address was, so I just input my name to get it. Nothing came up. I entered just my last name and my parents, sister, brother were on there, but both I and my other brother were not. Any idea how this happened? I've been registered since 1990.
I know that some states remove you from the registration list if you have not voted in the last X number of elections. I do not know which elections they use to compute X.
This may be informative: Q: I don't remember seeing my certificate lately. Is that a problem? Don't I just stay registered? A: New certificates are mailed out every two years to the most recent address you gave to the voter registrar. If you do not recall receiving a new orange and white certificate in early 2008, it could mean that you have moved without updating, or there is some other problem with your registration. If the certificate was mailed to an old address, it was returned to the registrar, and you were placed on the "suspense list" in that county. This means you have a grace period that allows you to vote in the same county in your old precinct, but if you do not vote, your name will be removed from the rolls after two federal elections have passed since you were placed on the suspense list. If you did not receive your certificate because you moved to a new Texas county, you will need to re-register. http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/pamphlets/faqs.shtml
