Remember this guy- Adam Hall? Stud QB from Westlake who decided not to play backup to Major and Chris is starting at SDSU. Chrissy's roommate when they were freshmen. That means two Westlake guys are in San Diego: Hall and Brees. Speaking of Texas QBs, remember these guys: Marty Cherry - played in '97 during the 4-7 disastrous season, now a Polo model Richard "doctor" Walton - starting QB in '97, currently in med school, lost job to Major after getting hurt against UCLA Greg Cicero - would have started in '98 if he wasn't injured, RS fresh Applewhite got the nod as a result Adam Dunn - all star Cincinnati Reds OF from New Braunfels Beau Trahan - recruited as a QB, now a special teams stud, not a DI QB Adam Hall - way down on the depth chart http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/uniontrib/wed/sports/news_1s14azfoot.html
I have to question Hall's decision to come to Texas in the same class as Simms. Did he really think he would play ahead of the # 1 QB in the country? And also Trahan? This offseason Billy Don Malone (what a name) decommitted cause he knew he would never play ahead of Young. Malone will probably be Tulane's starting QB next season when the Wave play in Austin. Malone is a pro prospect now instead of riding the pine at UT...King, Ramsey, Losman...
where's James Brown these days? edit: I found him! He's a Claymore! http://www.claymores.co.uk/players/2002/brown5.shtml
Well, this list of backup QB's: Marty Cherry - played in '97 during the 4-7 disastrous season, now a Polo model Richard "doctor" Walton - starting QB in '97, currently in med school, lost job to Major after getting hurt against UCLA Greg Cicero - would have started in '98 if he wasn't injured, RS fresh Applewhite got the nod as a result Adam Dunn - all star Cincinnati Reds OF from New Braunfels Beau Trahan - recruited as a QB, now a special teams stud, not a DI QB Adam Hall - way down on the depth chart Screws up this Smokey quote: There's no one more popular at UT than the backup QB
Don't forget model, TV color analyst, and NFL bust. btw, how many of us are Texas alums/future alums? Just because we think Simms sucks does not = bandwagon fan.
You have just been warned. ~ Hornfans staff Those people on Hornfans are the biggest losers I have ever seen in my life. Can you believe they're having a tailgate party for this Saturday's practice! "Practice? We talking bout practice?" What is wrong with these people?
Young should have better instincts than Simms, but without any real snaps (experience) and knowledge of the playbook, Simms is the starter. Also, for recruiting purposes, ditching Simms his senior year for a true freshman would look really bad. It's best not to rush Young like we did with Simms. The best route for Young is to sit this season although if all the QB's struggle then I could see Young losing his redshirt. I'd rather have him for 4 years starting every game.
I wish I knew... i loved watching him on Saturdays... those games helped me forget about all those freakin' chem classes I hated having to take at Welch Hall! oops, didn't mean to go off... James Brown was one of the gutsiest QBs i'd ever seen.... I thought for sure he'd at least be drafted, but I don't think he was... same for Reggie Freeman, my alltime favorite UT bballer! After an appearance in the Bucks camp his rookie year, he just disappeared! As for Chris Simms, I'm a UT alum and i can't stand his qb skills (or lack thereof) however, since this season may be our best chance to win a championship (with roy williams and cedric benson possibly going pro) i wouldn't want to put all our hopes on a freshman, as talented as he may be... i'll live with chrissy for the year, sigh!
Come on BK. Do you really think the majority of the UT fanbase feels the same way about Simms as you do? I promise not to call him "Chrissy" or insult him personally, but please don't lock this thread cause we're being harsh on him.
Hell yes I do. 90 percent of the Longhorn fans I know-- coworkers, friends, and alumni-- are nothing but supportive of Chris and the coaches. It's the other ten percent of them that disassociate from reality and think that Mack would play a player who didn't give him the best chance to win, or that Simms "lacks" QB skills.
Maybe if Simms starts that game, he doesn't throw 3 INT's in the first half and we aren't in that hole.
